CHARLESTON West Virginia remains low risk for COVID-19, the new coronavirus, but state officials are taking precautions and making preparations for a possible outbreak.
Wednesday afternoon, Gov. Jim Justice and Department of Health and Human Resources Secretary Bill Crouch said they are in contact with federal officials and have assembled a wide-ranging team of state medical experts, educators and others in response to the rapidly spreading virus.
The virus is slightly more severe than the flu but not as contagious as the measles, Justice said.
We dont have a case here in West Virginia, but weve got to be ready, he said. Weve got to make sure that every stone is turned, were together and were ready.
The state hasnt specifically set aside any funds for the response to COVID-19, but there are adequate funds in the states coffers to deal with whatever may arise, Crouch said.
Were are confident that we have funds available through one emergency fund or another, he said.
The federal government also has promised to provide funding, Crouch said.
We were on the call, the governor and I, yesterday with Vice President (Mike) Pence and (U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services) Secretary (Alex) Azar, and they have pledged a minimum of $2.5 billion to be distributed to states, Crouch said. That number is going as high as $6 and $7 billion. That, I understand, a little earlier day was stalled a little bit, but the expectation is that appropriation will move quickly to get money out to states so that we have the funds available.
Pence said COVID-19 testing kits will be made available to states by next week, Crouch said.

I don’t really believe most of this, just posted for our WV Freepers so they know the gov. here at least getting test kits from the CDC so when all the junkies start to test positive we will know.
I’m more concerned about the flu but nobody puts up those numbers.
I did get a flu shot though.
Prepping!
Makes me glad.
