Its always important to keep things in proper perspective. That is particularly important as the nation grapples with the fallout from the novel coronavirus, which has infected 100 Americans and killed six people. Sadly, more people died last night from the tornadoes that ripped through Tennessee.
But just so you know, the yearly flu has already infected at least 32 million Americans, caused 310,000 hospitalizations and 18,000 deaths.
The lefts delusional reaction to the coronavirus is more of a public threat than the virus itself. Seriously, friends, lets just look at how the left has responded to this crisis.

Here’s some perspective.
Seven weeks ago:
“A surge of newly confirmed novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) cases since Friday in Wuhan has pushed the outbreak total to 198 cases”
This is very unwelcome news to far too many Freepers.
The lefts and many on FearRepublics delusional reaction to the coronavirus is more of a public threat than the virus itself
Had to adjust it slightly.
That’s not perspective, that’s hysteria.
How so?
Anything that disagrees with the normalcy bias of the ‘but flu’ cult is ‘hysteria’.
I, for one, will continue to look before I cross the street and warn children not to play in traffic. I am also prepared to close up the house for an extended period should quarantines and such start happening.
Worth a read.Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

They are trying to keep the idea alive that coronovisrus is a pandemic in the United States and the panic is founded in reality.
It’s amazing how many Freepers have been drawn into mindlessly parroting the Left’s talking points.
After the last couple of weeks here on FR I can see how candidates like Bernie could become president.
An article from seven weeks ago about the situation Wuhan is trying to do what?
Do you think we should be quarantining those with the virus and restricting flights from China, Korea and Italy? We don’t do those measures for flu victims.
sorry, missed the first part of your original post noting it was a 7 week old article.
I get it that the the left would love to use this for attacking Trump.
But I am ex CIA and I knew immediately when China shut down Wuhan that it was very serious. I won’t bother explaining why.
Panic is foolish. But the other side of that same kind of silliness is “the flu is worse”.
It is a bit late but you can still take level headed, common sense precautions such as stocking up on food and water. Even if the US avoids the worst of this (which is just starting) there will be significant supply chain disruptions.
I think there is a 95% chance this virus will end up wreaking no more havoc than what we experience in an average or slightly worse than average flu season, but on the 5% chance it is very serious, I don’t think it hurts to restrict entry into the country.
Besides, if leftists are forced to admit that restricting entry for the virus is good policy, then it is harder for them to argue that open borders is good policy.
Why bother? Were all gonna die in ten years anyway.
That’s a pathetic article. This thing is likely heading to overload our capacity to care for those who will get seriously sick from it. We could well end up in seven figures in terms of death in the US. This is a lethal bioweapon. Not like the usual flu at all. But like the Spanish flu from over 100 years ago in terms of likely impact.
No need to be such a nasty personal jerk about anything here.
