Time for Reparations!
How long until some Democrat proposes it? And which one will it be?
See needs to send me itemized bill.../S
“Families just share loads whether at home or away from home.”
One of the important keys for a successful marriage.
Actually I enjoy grilling.
Does this figure include sexual favors?
BS. We divide the labor in our house. I’m garbage, clean the bathrooms, ect. Wife does laundry and so on. A friend of mine his wife does NONE of the cleaning. Her mother comes over to do deep cleans and the hubby does the rest.
We've been working this week on taking down a rock wall surrounding the fireplace. I say "we", it's more like "I". Got a third of it down, huge varied stones embedded in concrete and chicken wire and ten feet wide. I'm using crowbars and hammers. Wife today says "The rest of the wall is coming off today." I said "Are you doing it?". Wife says "Well, you're doing it."
Stones are too heavy for her to carry away. Only thing she is doing is sweeping dust. I should be paid thousands. She won't be doing the electrical, framing, sheetrock and plastering either, I'll be doing it. Plus I do the landscaping, plumbing and other jobs. I would be rich if she would pay me what I'm worth.
Me too....but don’t tell anyone!
Let’s see... I’ll pay her $12 an hour for housework today. She gets $36. I installed an electrical hookup for the backup generator and did her federal income tax (and filed it). I figure $450 would pay for that. She owes me $416 so far today.
What kind of generator did you end up going with?
Duromax 15KW Propane/Gasoline generator. It will run the entire house and doesn’t require a building permit because it is portable. I put it and a 2 tank RV setup in the Lanai (concrete screened outdoor patio. It fits in a box that I built and use for a table and the propane powers the grill when it’s not in use by the generator.
“I guess the NYT and its readers are too stupid to understand the division of labor within families.”
Excellent point. Your guess is better than mine. NYT has writers who are confused about everything and failures in everything. News flash to normal people who avoid NYT: mothers, housewives, nuns, and sisters are priceless!
Just gonna admit, I didn’t read the article (considering title and source.) Did read you comment #1 which is quite valid and want to add POV of 61 year old housewife, me.
I have yet to see an article add up time effort and support of unpaid male head-of-household time. Just within the past few days my husband has 1)worked on car, 2) unstopped a toilet, 3) mowed 4) dug some holes for my tree planting because I’m disabled, love to garden but some things are beyond me. He’s also 5) assisted some folks at church, 6) worked his regular job, 7)worked on fencing on the land adjacent to us. His mom lives in an apartment on our property too, he 8) takes her daily mail, 9) does the odds and ends she needs doing (leaky faucet, move her furniture, carry her groceries in — at least a dozen things for her a week.)
He also makes time for all 5 of our kids, their spouses and all 24 grandkids when they bother to give him time. He carts out our trash to the curb on Mondays, feeds multiple pets daily, shops for the pet food because I can’t lift the mega-bags.
I’m preachin to the choir among other lady freepers. But I want all you guys to know WE APPRECIATE YOU!
Sweet set up. I bought my Champion 6500 during an outage (THE worst time to buy one). I wanted bigger but that was all that was available and we worried about the freezer/refrigerators. The lying salesman said it was a whole house generator and could run EVERYTHING. I knew better but didn’t correct him. It runs the essentials lights, refrigerators/freezer and most importantly the well pump (no more hauling water from the creek). I poured a slab and housed it in a Suncast shed and it’s hooked into the breaker box with interlock system. I can cook on the grill and propane cooker so I’m set. IF I ever build a house (not likely) it will have a back-up generator that auto-starts on blackout (I have to start mine).
And men would get paid three times that for their unpaid labor.
Sexist, leftist author once again trying to divide us.
JoMa
On the other hand, in a traditional setting they get paid room and board, and don’t usually get fired for intermittent failure at one or another of the tasks.
By their calculations, how much do I get paid for feeding myself?
Housecleaning services around here are about $80 an hour... needed less than one hour per week.
So the author thinks women are nothing but hookers?
