Authorities searching the California home of a UPS worker who threatened a mass shooting found body armor, tactical rifles and 20,000 rounds of ammunition, police said Monday.
Thomas Andrews, 32, was arrested on suspicion of evading police, driving under the influence and several weapons violations, police in Sunnyvale said in a statement.
Authorities said they received a report Sunday night that Andrews was planning a mass shooting at the UPS facility in the city of Sunnyvale, near San Jose.
When officers tried to stop him three hours later, shortly after 11 p.m. PT, a pursuit on one of the states main thoroughfares, Highway 101, followed.
After officers stopped Andrews, they searched his Sunnyvale apartment and found thousands of rounds of ammunition, high capacity magazines, five tactical rifles, a shotgun, three handguns, body armor and tactical backpacks with ammunition.

20,000 rounds? Pfffft——We went through 1000 rounds of ammo Sunday at the range.
Looks like the Locals interrupted a FBI mass shooting again, he was suppose to unleash his anger in October, two weeks before the Nov. Election.
Local smokeys just ruined it for the FIBs
They are going to have to find another unhinged patsy
Is that what they're calling assault rifles these days?
Glad they caught him before this happened. Sounds like the motive might be some sort of workplace grudge, like at the Coors plant last week. (Just guessing.)
They sure do love showing piles of weapons and ammo... but seriously, what idiot, hell-bent on getting famous for killing people, would ever carry more than 2 weapons, and/or more than 15-20 lbs of ammo? More weapons are too bulky compared to more magazines, and there’s a quickly diminishing rate of return when you go past a certain weight to carry. If you’re not thinking about getting away, and you’re just creating a stationary bunker, then maybe the big piles make sense... but who has ever done that?
What makes a backpack tactical?
UPS — going postal?

It’s fortunate he didn’t follow Eli Wallach’s dictum from “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.”

Which does the rifle get to choose?
Kevlar inserts? Besides, I thought tacticals were Tacomas with machine guns mounted on the bed.
Actually no one has gone postal for quite some time now.
Whatever the USPS did to change its hiring practices appears to be working.
not sure, but a lookup of “tactical backpack” on amazon shows a lot of cool backbacks that have a lot of small pockets and clips, so I’m guessing that is to hold magazines and stuff.
Can just picture a rabid shooter stopping to reload loosies into empty mags as he calls a time-out to the swat team.
OK, so I do a google search of “tactical rifle”, just to see, and this hilarious thing pops up as the first response:
“A tactical rifle is a firearm designed for shooting people in a precise manner, as opposed to New York City Police Department doctrine, which is to empty the magazine as fast as you can in the general direction of everything standing and hope for the best.M”
Meanwhile, I read in another place that tactical rifles are made more for close-combat stuff, and for example, “a tactical rifle with a heavier barrel, can generally shoot more rounds before barrel heat starts to affect things. “
“Authorities said they received a report Sunday night”
What was the source of the report?
What is the difference between an assault rifle and a tacticle rifle?
Have they decided that assault rifle is no longer a properly intimidating term? We need a new term to frighten the masses. Tactical will do it.

WTF is a tactical backpack?
