Schumer Successfully Blocks Black Woman From N.C. Senate Nom
Washington Free Beacon ^ | 3/4/2020 | Andrew Stiles

Posted on 03/05/2020 7:54:30 AM PST by RightGeek

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) succeeded in his arguably racist quest to prevent a black woman from winning the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in North Carolina.

State senator Erica Smith (D.), a former Boeing engineer who tried to become just the third black woman in history to serve in the Senate, came up short in the Democratic primary on Tuesday. Cal Cunningham, a former state senator and Schumer-approved white man, secured the party's nomination with 56 percent of the vote. Smith placed second with 36 percent. Cunningham will face Republican incumbent Thom Tillis in the November election.

"We had an extraordinary run," Smith tweeted to supporters on Tuesday. "We took on a giant and … came up short." Smith refrained from lashing out at the Democratic Party leadership, as she had done on numerous occasions during the campaign.

"Sen. Schumer, for whatever reason, did not want an African American running for Senate in North Carolina," said Smith at a campaign rally in January. She also accused the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) in October of breaking its pledge to remain neutral by formally endorsing Cunningham.

At the time, Smith denounced the DSCC endorsement as an "unacceptable" attempt to "sway this U.S. Senate election away from the voices and voters of North Carolina." She said party leaders had told her campaign "unequivocally, that they were not, had not, did not intend to endorse in the primary."

Before Cunningham even announced his candidacy in June, he had received more than $150,000 from New York-based donors, all but two of whom had also donated to Schumer. These donations comprised more than a third of Cunningham's itemized contributions for the second quarter of 2019, according to federal election records.

This Cal Cunningham could be a formidable candidate against Tillis.

By all accounts, Tillis has succeeded in irritating just about everyone since he got to the Senate - the GOP base, the Dems, etc.

No doubt he did it because he did not think the black candidate could win. Or maybe it was because he did not think a woman could win.

They don’t call the GOP ‘The Stupid Party’ for nothing.

At least the liberals come right out and say we are baby killing communists. The GOP is the guy in the room who just stands there watching and says, “Did all we could. Reelect me and we’ll get’m next time.”

Then they all go vacation together on Hilton Head.

The only reason why any of those things happened is that the guy holding the gun to the GOP’s head is now Trump (and maybe the US Marine Corp.).

Holding up Obama’s nomination was before Trump.

” those things happened”

Since they happened, your post of nothing happening is false.

Sorry pal. Reread the post.

I never said they did nothing. I IMPLIED they did enough to fake courage and real concern, and then on core concepts like Rule of Law, they stood by and let it be.

Cal Cunningham needs to be called out for touting his Bronze Star, but not saying why he was awarded it. It SOUNDS like he was awarded the Bronze Star for combat bravery, but he received it for his ‘organizational skills arranging the courts in Iraq’. He is a JAG.

C’mon North Carolina! Get the TRUTH out there!

Before Cunningham even announced his candidacy in June, he had received more than $150,000 from New York-based donors, all but two of whom had also donated to Schumer. These donations comprised more than a third of Cunningham's itemized contributions for the second quarter of 2019, according to federal election records.

And here's a big part of the problem. Outside influence. What we need to do is remove campaign contribution limits, but enforce geographical limits. Candidates can ONLY accept contributions from people or businesses within their district. They are required to keep a log of every donation, and who/where it's coming from. No bundling or anything, individual people/businesses only.
