... "I've never seen downtown so empty," she said, referring to the streets, not just the shelves. ... Francisco's store has been in the same small corner for 43 years, she said. Before that, her mother owned a novelty shop in another spot of the usually bustling shopping area. Millions of people visit Pike Place Market annually.
But the stalls are empty this week. Vendors aren't flinging fish to one another; instead, they're checking their phones or reading a book.
"It's like a ghost town," Francisco said. ...

Meh.
fake news
I live just a couple of miles north of Seattle, actually a bit closer to where the corona virus cases have been clustered, and I haven’t seen any noticeable difference in public activity.
Where do all the homeless people go when there’s nobody to beg from? Oh. Right. They stay home.
Ahh geez no wonder the world will be herded into a global order of slaves ruled by allah the dirty tyrant - coronavirus has everyone inside like scared kids. Anyhow I call bull on this, real Americans are out working. I would be too if my truck wasn’t in shop. Just weakness being spread around all over - by internet computer people and media weaklings or something.
*yawn* maybe all the libs will stay inside through election day fearing this and global warming!
ROFL
Who do you expect us to believe, NBC News or your lying eyes?

The Public Market draws tourists from all over the world, so I can see people staying away from there , but it shouldn’t affect downtown as a whole - people are still going to work, and there haven’t been any mass closures of stores of offices. Most of the known cases of infection, and all of the nine deaths, were out in the suburbs.
Writer of the original NBC story is getting slammed on Twitter.

If you didnt explore the US 20 years ago, you missed the best features of the travel industry coast to coast. It will never be the same.
Your irony is enchanting!
My daughter works downtown. She has had to ride her bike to work because mass transit is shut down.
Or go door-to-door.
"WORK" is their dirty four letter word.
I wish coronavirus town would turn my town into a ghost town. Traffic is ridiculous. Doesn’t anybody around here work? Do they know how difficult it is to FReep and drive with all this traffic?
From what I read, they need to stay away from a certain nursing home.
Oh wow. I hadn’t heard they shut down mass transit.
Good though. They’re taking it seriously.
Thank you. This is a tough crowd. Glad you’re in the audience.
