Bernie Sanders Lands Biggest Prize Of Super Tuesday With California Win
The Federalist ^ | 03/03/2020 | Tristan Justice

Posted on 03/03/2020 8:39:00 PM PST by SeekAndFind

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has captured the biggest prize of the Super Tuesday primaries with a first-place finish in California, the Associated Press projects.

Sanders’ west coast win comes as a big relief to the New England senator who lost a majority of the Super Tuesday contest states to former Vice President Joe Biden, who swept the southern primaries with big wins in Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Biden has also been declared the winner in Minnesota and Massachusetts, two states where Biden had no presence, while Sanders has only been projected to win Utah, Colorado, and his own home state of Vermont in addition to California.

Biden’s extraordinary wins follow a game-changing 72 hours where Biden, who went into South Carolina as a faltering candidate triumphantly emerged with a re-energized campaign after a 28-point blow out joined by a series of high-profile endorsements from former 2020 rivals and prominent Democrats. On the eve of Super Tuesday, Biden landed support from Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, former South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg, and former Texas Congressman Robert Francis O’Rourke. Biden also won endorsements from former Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and former U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice.

While Sanders may have captured California in a win of redemption from a poor performance on Tuesday, the size of Sanders’ victory hinges on whether the other candidates will meet the threshold to land delegates to split the 415 delegate spoils in the west coast contest.

No state in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination is a winner-take-all contest this year, but candidates must hit 15 percent support statewide to win at-large delegates of 15 percent in congressional districts to score district delegates.

To avoid a contested convention in Milwaukee, the winning candidate must garner 1,991 of the 3,979 delegates in play. More than a third of the total delegates in the race will be decided in the 16 states and territories that voted on Super Tuesday.

The enthusiasm won’t be there and many will stay home but most will still vote for the down tickets. Yet a few per- centage points not voting here and there will make a difference in some races.

That there will be no strong women candidates for president will dampen enthusiasm amongst women voters. They could try to pair Biden(should he win) with Warren but that will frost the Bernie-ites. If they pair Biden with Bernie, it may depress the enthusiasm of the woman Dem voters.

I don’t see Bloomberg as a factor, only a spoiler...perhaps he wants a job as Secretary of the Treasury.

I don’t want Ivanka anywhere near the levers of power. She is a snake that has always tried to hoodwink and out maneuver her father. I think he has a handle on her now but I wish he would just quietly assign her to a desk with a telephone, a scratch pad and no real duties.

Sanders won, but California hasn’t been winner-take-all for decades. Even if he beat Biden the difference is close enough that the net gain in delegates will not be enough to offset the shellacking he got in Virginia, North Carolina, and other states.

Biden, hee, hee, hee...wait till he’s one-on-one on a debate stage with Trump. Biden is going to have to be wired and on remote control.

But Bernie is on track to win New York and Illinois. It’s not over.

Two days ago Bernie was on track to win Texas and Minnesota. No, it's not over but what has happened in the past week has definitely changed the dynamics.

That’s Abrams girl from GA seems like a good pick. She brings out the black vote and holds the Bernie vote. Trump will need to peel off the black vote or hope they stay home. He’s worked so hard for Blacks in the country. Hopefully more than a handful of appreciate it

He'll pick a woman, but not necessarily a black woman. The pickings are pretty slim. Harris wouldn't want it. Abrams is a joke. I'm suspect it will be Klobuchar.

Stacey Abrams makes a lot of sense for Biden because she helps in GA, NC, FL. Or maybe his puppet masters goes with KLobuchar to attract suburban white women.

Biden will just lie and get top cover from Fake News. And probably GOP Senators like Graham.

That’s a good possibility about Klobuchar. It’d make getting Minnesota more difficult for trump. Grrr.

No way burnie wins IL now with Biden, Obama’s VP, having front runner status: Most delegates and leading the popular vote by 7%. I would think he’s in good shape now to win Florida, too. Biden almost certainly will have a very large lead in delegates after Florida in two weeks.

I get the feeling Biden offered Warren VP and in her delusional mind ( she still thought she could win) she said no.
That or, the establishment just left her out to dangle in the wind?

If Biden is nominated, Bernie bots stay home>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

If we are lucky. They may attack polls in November at every inner city location, thereby nullifying the election in several states.

Bernie supporters are effing crazy MoFos.

The payback will be huge.

They will likely do far more than “stay home.”

BUt guess what? TRUMP WINS! Thank goodness.

But I don’t think it helps him. The group of black women that is out there for him to choose from are all, on the whole, so violently strident, people will turn a deaf ear. It might be smarter for him to pick a Hispanic woman if he were to choose a woman at all. Klobuchar comes to mind as well. A surprise out of left field might be Oprah for VP...why not? Trump, TV personality, developer, billionaire also jumped into politics.

No I think the brokers are going to have to try to make peace within the ranks between to “go slow” process oldsters Podesta types and the radical socialist “want it now young Turk, AOC types”(who are all chafing under the rule of all those “old people and their money and control”).
The youngers like Bernie even though he is old because they see him as a wrecking ball to hated capitalism. I really can see them trying to remake the US into China or NK and setting up a statue to Bernie after he dies and commanding all to venerate that statue as they pass by under pain of being shot on sight for not kneeling before the image of the beloved hero of the revolution.

Some people need to wake up: Biden is the nominee. Bernie has hit his ceiling and it’s dropping. The DNC skillfully got Steyer, Buttigieg and Klobuchar out and that gave Biden at least a 10 point bump for Super Tuesday. And the MSM will fight doubly hard to carry Biden against Trump.
