If that is true, there will be 100,000 Dead in Milan Italy alone, since it have been uncontained there for a month.

I highly doubt its 3.4%

Poor analogy.

Many of us tried to warn people about what the greenies did to set up the inferno.. We had friends in both areas lose homes. Some still haven’t been able to rebuild.

I have been pushing for real tests and real data on this Chicom virus issue. Since the first week not news items.

Remove me from your ping list. I don’t associate with bullies and implied threats.

The evolution of denial:

China is full of smokers and they eat bats.
South Korea, Sinapore, Japan: It only affects Asians.
Iran: Iran's healthcare sucks.
Italy: Italy is full of old people and smokers.
United States: Only already sick people are dying.

WHO has been way overly optimistic the past few days.

Here’s to sobering them up.

“of reported cases”

And in some places where they are exhaustively testing, the reported cases number is pretty much the all cases number.

How many cases of “the flu” go completely under the radar? How many are mistaken for a cold or allergies or are simply so mild they are not noticed by the afflicted person? It’s not a valid argument.

“the death rate is far lower than the author says”

How do you arrive at this conclusion? Can we see your data?

It has not been "uncontained" anywhere. Every country on the face of the earth where it has appeared has taken extreme and unprecedented actions to contain it including mass quarantines, locking down cities, closing schools and businesses....and save for Singapore they've only managed to slow it down so far.

It’s still pretty early to be giving a death rate since there aren’t test kits and there are those who get such mild symptoms it isn’t even reported.

Better to go with deaths per 100,000 population that they use for flu.

I am a recently retired nurse. I have been in many respiratory droplet isolation rooms in which we wear surgical masks. They now say those masks are worthless. I am having a hard time reconciling that. They are basically telling us we were risking our health all these years. Hospitals state they fit you for the N95 masks, but the fit process is a joke. I even remember the Ebola crisis and the hospital sent us a directive which showed the personal protective equipment we should wear. The PPE had exposed neck and lower leg. Not at all protective.
If we get this virus at China levels, our hospitals will not be able to handle the patient load. That is another reason why I am taking precautions. Flu season already overwhelms hospitals, and to make a profit hospitals short staff nurses. I am glad I am now retired. We have have the best medical system in the world, but it is fraying and will fall apart in a pandemic.
I did get N95 masks. Even a month ago, they were in short supply but I was able to get four boxes

You are partially wrong. Our system is far superior to most of the world and somewhat superior to much of the rest, with a few places that are close enough as makes no difference. What we have over most countries is depth.

So seeing how S. Korea and Japan and Italy handle it will tell us a lot.

It is impossible to calculate a mortality rate at this point in time, because the asymptomatic cases are not being counted.

It’s a foolish discussion . It’s highly contagious and some people die. Those are the facts.

THE MOST SIGNIFICANT statistic with covid-19 is...…..
at ground zero (Hubei province in China) only 1 in 1000 has been confirmed infected. What does that number works out to in USA? 5000 infections out of 330 million? That would be 1 out of 66,000!

You got that right.

The vultures have feasted for too long. What’s left is a hollow tree which will not withstand the storm.

I don’t believe these are reinfections - our immune systems don’t work that way. They might have never been fully recovered (with China’s slipshod procedures this seems most likely) or there are multiple strains running around (horror show, but not as likely).

Wash your hands, sneeze in your elbow, masks don’t help, most cases minor, vaccine coming soon.

CNBC..fueling panic and hysteria at every opportunity.

The left AND right leaning media are all fueling panic because that's what keeps viewers tuned in on TV or eyes glued to their webpages.

Don't buy the media hype. From EITHER side.

It’s already been a month in Milan.

My son has 2 friends that think they got Covid 19 in Milan last month, days before they locked the city down. THey are with an OU study abroad program, and OU is recalling everyone from Italy. My son’s friends described the symptoms as “I’ve been sicker”.

For the death rate to be 3.4%, there would be dead kids everywhere (like 1918-1920) (there are Mass graves in Texas and Oklahoma Cemeteries). Maybe 1,000 - 5.000 80 year olds die in Milan over the next year (how many would have died, anyway). Call me skeptical, but I’d bet money it won’t be 100,000 (3.0% 0f 3,000,000) in Milan.

If China's numbers are true (which many believe is a big if) It's only because they've instituted drastic measures to contain it. This includes: Mass quarantines. The locking down of entire cities by armed guards. Locking the sick in their apartments. Building mass quarantine centers where the sick were warehoused to either die or recover. And finally....threatening to execute province officials who didn't get things under control.

Are you prepared to have that happen here?
