New York Has Second Coronavirus Case; Bronx private school where one of the patient’s children attends is closed

A second person in New York has tested positive for the coronavirus, officials said Tuesday, leading to the closure of a Bronx private school where one of the patient’s children attends.

The new patient, a 50-year-old attorney, lives in New Rochelle, N.Y., north of New York City, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday. The man works in Manhattan and had an underlying respiratory illness. He went into the NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville and was then transferred to a hospital in Manhattan, officials said. Mr. Cuomo said he didn’t know if the man took public transportation, but his movements were being traced now.

The man’s children are being tested. The man didn’t have any known travel to affected areas, but had traveled to Miami a while back, Mr. Cuomo said.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said that the New York state resident was diagnosed at a New York City hospital. The person remains hospitalized and is in serious condition, he said. City and state disease detectives are working closely to identify close contacts and the appropriate next steps, he said.

The Bronx school that voluntarily closed Tuesday is SAR Academy. It is located in the Riverdale section of the Bronx.

Rabbi Binyamin Krauss, a principal of SAR Academy, referred a call for comment to public health officials. “We will get the guidance of local and state departments of health,” he said. “It’s very, very new.”

Parents received an email on Tuesday morning from the school’s principal, saying that the school’s lower school and high school were closed for precautionary measures.

SAR Academy is a modern Orthodox Jewish coeducational day school, according to the school’s website. It serves some 1,400 students and has some 300 faculty.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Tuesday morning. According to CNN, Cuomo said the man lives in Westchester County and works in Manhattan. He added that it appeared to be a “community spread case,” meaning it doesn’t seem the man had recently travelled to China or another infected part of the world.

My observation is that America is different than China.

There will be many many more cases I'm sure, but we will all survive despite the hype and panic.

My guess is train, that could cause more community cases.

RE: My guess is train, that could cause more community cases.

And if this particular case is a Community Case, he must have gotten it from .... where exactly?

That’s the worrying and difficult part — CONTACT TRACING.

“How does he go to Manhattan? By train? if so, How many people did he encounter CLOSELY by train?”

He may have contracted the virus from someone on the train, who recently visited an infected area overseas.

“My observation is that America is different than China.”

There’s a lotta countries you can do the “but there were only 2” thing with, in addition to China:

Well, if so, this means that there is at least another CoVID-19 case in NY running around unaware that he as it ( the incubation period is 27 days ).

At one time it was 2 people out of 1.4 billion in China.

So far, only 00668% of China's population has contracted the virus.

I think you are using the OFFICIAL numbers given by the Communist Government. Nobody in China even believes that figure.

“So far, only 00668% of China’s population has contracted the virus.”

Even taking that as a fact (China’s numbers are suspected by everyone) it should be even more sobering and stunning that such a tiny percentage has brought the 2nd biggest economy in the world to it’s knees. And if you had taken time to see what they’ve had to do just to keep the country from totally collapsing, you’d be even more shocked. (But since China has cracked down videos, whistleblowers, reporting and other public info, so you haven’t seen).

Just .00668 % has done/is doing it all. You made a quite horrific point without intending to there.
