~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Travis Air Force Base, California Travis Air Force Base is a United States Air Force air base under the operational control of the Air Mobility Command (AMC), located three miles east of the central business district of Fairfield, in Solano County, California, United States.
Situated at the southwestern edge of the Sacramento Valley and known as the "Gateway to the Pacific," Travis Air Force Base handles more cargo and passenger traffic through its airport than any other military air terminal in the United States. The base has a long and proud history of supporting humanitarian airlift operations at home and around the world. Today, Travis AFB includes approximately 7,260 active USAF military personnel, 4,250 Air Force Reserve personnel and 3,770 civilians. The base's host unit, the 60th Air Mobility Wing, is the largest wing in the Air Force's Air Mobility Command, with a versatile fleet of 26 C-5 Galaxies, 27 KC-10 Extenders, and 13 C-17 Globemaster III aircraft.
In addition, the base's former Strategic Air Command Alert Facility is now a U.S. Navy complex that typically supports two transient Navy E-6B Mercury TACAMO aircraft assigned to Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron THREE (VQ-3) Detachment and normally home-based at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma. The largest squadron within the 60th Medical Group, the 60th Medical Operations Squadron maintains worldwide contingency medical readiness for three Wings with 405 authorized personnel supporting a $310.5 million total annual medical expense. 60 MDOS provides quality health care to more than 500,000 Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs personnel. The 9th Air Refueling Squadron mobilizes and deploys 12 KC-10 aircraft with over 140 combat-ready personnel and equipment to worldwide forward operating locations. Ensures global reach for America by generating 24-hour-a-day strategic airlift and aerial-refueling sorties supporting U.S. and allied forces during contingency operations. Travis AFB is (as I jokingly tell my wife), our “one-stop-shopping” resource.
Cheapest gas in CA? Check.
BX shopping? Check.
Commissary? DOUBLE CHECK.
Lunch (at the Food Court)? Check. (The only Arby’s for 40 miles around!)
Haircut? Check.
We hardly go anywhere else to shop, either.
Man am I GLAD that President Trump and the GOP Congress restored my BX/Commissary privileges on Jan 1 of this year!!!* :>)
*Federal Law passed in 2018 restored BX/Commissary/MWR privileges to Vets classified with a disablitity rating.

Howdy, LUV.
Rock ‘n’ roll is fun but not when the ground’s doing it, huh? LOL

Bad enough if you live in an area that has frequent quakes but when in an area that doesn’t, it’s more startling.

We really expected to hear that it was a tank battery explosion or a bad wreck close by...but never heard any sirens go off. Right after than I got a notification from the local TV station that it was indeed a 3.0 earthquake close by.

At least it was a jolt and not a long shaker.
We had a small shaker here when I was a teen and even after 50 years, I still remember it like it was yesterday. Did......not......like.
And that was the day I made up my mind I’d never live on the west coast. LOL

I agree. I don’t think I’d like feeling these things on a weekly basis. My son felt one when he lived in San Jose. He was on the phone with his wife who was then his GF, and he felt it and said...”what the heck was that” About 30 seconds later she said she felt is and told him “I just felt an earthquake”. It took that long to travel from one suburb to the other. It was kind of funny.
Feeling one as a teen when you have little or no knowledge of such things would certainly be a jolt to the system!

Great memories of catching hops out of Travis to Hickam AFB in Honolulu between semesters when I was going to college. After active duty I went into the Air Force Reserves. I would drive out to Travis 1-2 days ahead of time and put my name on the waiting list. Usually there were 3-4 C-5s or 141s per day. My first flight was on a C-5 and we took off during a heavy rain storm. Landed for a few hours at Norton AFB before continuing on to Hickam. I spent the first night sleeping in my rental car during a rare (for Hawaii) thunderstorm. Great times.

Some people seem to get used to feeling the earth shake but I don’t know that I ever could.
I had no clue we had faults running through TN when we had the one I felt. It was a rude introduction to reality. LOL

With all the hills and valleys, I can see where you might have a fault or two. We’re completely flat, but are on a plateau. Ours could also be from fracking, but I’m skeptical about that.

We have the New Madrid fault line on the west end and the Appalachian fault line on the east end, and I’m sure there are small faults scattered around too. They just aren’t very active though they do slip every now and then. They’re small so we don’t feel them here very often.

Well, there’s enough there to cause the occasional rock’n’roll in your area. But nothing like the massive ones in CA. Thank goodness, huh!

Havent been there since the USSR had 14 ICBM targeted on that location.
To: LUV W
The New Madrid could have another massive one some day but who knows when? It hasn’t cut loose since the early 1800s and it can wait a while longer before doing it again as far as we’re concerned. LOL It rang church bells in Boston.
Fortunately our fault lines aren’t nearly as active as those along the west coast.
What we lack in quakes we make up for in storms. A rough night in KY and now in TN. A tornado is bearing down on Nashville as I type. Tornado warning sirens just started wailing.
Nothing coming our way yet but things could get rough later this morning.

Oh, I hate when you say that tornadoes are in the area. Stay safe and I hope they miss any homes or businesses!

A whomper just blew through downtown Nashville. I’m watching Channel 5 and they showed it on a live cam on one of the buildings. Transformers were blowing like crazy and you see lights go out in swaths as they blew.
Went right past the TV station. One of the weather people was outside, on the phone talking on the air, when it hit. My kinda guy! LOL!
Storms are starting to blow up in AR and that’s what will move through here later on. Whether they have a lot of steam in them when they get here remains to be seen.
There will be storms blowing through DH shortly but no tornados with those at this time. They’re getting stronger, though, and I hope our eagles will be ok.

Yikes! I hope no one was injured in Nashville. I tried pulling up the DH nest and the cam was down. Probably got blown off-line. They really need a better set up. LOL!

Watching Channel 5 Live of some of the damage to downtown Nashville in Germanville. Frightening! Headed toward Cooksville.
