“Traditional” Chinese medical beliefs also seem to have widespread acceptance there. For some reason, even in the West, Chinese superstition is treated with a dignity that is (rightly) withheld from traditional Western superstitions.

Many of the same people who would rightly think you were crazy if you underwent bloodletting in order to release the excess humours would go to an acupuncturist without a second thought.

i’ve had acupuncture dozens of times, and it can produce miracles for soft tissue injury, such as a strained back or joint ... there are quite a few western doctors trained in acupuncture, and it’s recognized by the FDA and the NIH as an effective treatment for various kinds of pain ...
