Abortion rights face stern new test at conservative U.S. Supreme Court

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Supreme Court this week gets its first chance to consider new curbs on abortion rights with President Donald Trump’s two conservative appointees on the bench as it examines the legality of a Louisiana law that could force two of the state’s three clinics that perform the procedure to shut down.

The court, with a 5-4 conservative majority, is scheduled on Wednesday to hear arguments in an appeal by Shreveport-based abortion provider Hope Medical Group for Women seeking to invalidate the law. Chief Justice John Roberts may be pivotal in deciding the outcome, with Trump’s appointees Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch also in the spotlight.

The clinic sued to block the 2014 law, which requires that doctors who perform abortions have a difficult-to-obtain arrangement called “admitting privileges” at a hospital within 30 miles of the abortion clinic. A federal appeals court ruled against the clinic and upheld the law.

The Supreme Court struck down a similar Texas requirement in 2016 when conservative Justice Anthony Kennedy, who retired in 2018, joined the four liberal justices to defend abortion rights. Trump has tightened the conservative grip on the court with his 2018 appointment of Kavanaugh, who replaced Kennedy, and his 2017 appointment of Gorsuch.

In their prior stints as federal appellate judges, neither Kavanaugh nor Kennedy ruled directly on abortion rights.

The Louisiana case will test the willingness of the court to uphold Republican-backed abortion restrictions being pursued in numerous conservative states.

The “it’s a tax” supreme court is not a conservative court.

Because holy abortion is no sacred - no restrictions, no matter how reasonable they are, can be entertained.

This is the Democrat sacrament.

This should be an easy decision. All the SCOTUS has to do is find the words in the Constitution that give the right to a woman to kill her unborn child. k

“conservative U.S. Supreme Court”

F’n Reuters. It is not a Conservative Court. It is 4 hard core leftists, 3 conservatives and 2 left of center swing votes. They have nothing to worry about, the baby killing will continue.

“difficult-to-obtain arrangement called “admitting privileges”
~~~~~~
Getting admitting privileges is easy if you have the basic qualifications.
This “article/news story” is written with a heavy editorial/opinion lean. Typical of the Leftist media...
Admitting privileges are difficult to obtain?? Every doctor we have, from our GP to the various specialists have admitting privileges.
“...restrictions, no matter how reasonable they are, can be entertained.”
This appeal is against a law which states that abortionists must be doctors who have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles.
I guess it is not so much to enable continuity of provision as it is to ensure the killer is a licensed, competent physician.
They’re taking this argument to the Supreme Court
People who would argue that legalized abortion eliminates the need for women to kill their babies in a back alley want back alley abortions performed by non-physicians.
They waste tax payer resources to make this case.
They hate people who reason against it, instead of seeing their argument as senseless and inconsistent
Their hatred is rooted in this.
I wouldn’t call it a sacrament. Sacraments are from God, based on natural law, they lead to spiritual, mental and physical health
Abortion is their second amendment. They believe it should not be infringed on.
“ Getting admitting privileges is easy if you have the basic qualifications.”
That’s the argument. They want ‘people’ who do not have basic qualifications of a physician to be legally able to perform abortions.
So the liberals just want to be able to say:
KILL IT!
(Just like she-who-talks-with-forked-tongue-but-broken-clock-like-right-once-a-day warned about.)
If the point of it all is to kill the unborn child, why do they need admitting privileges?
There’s nothing to save.
If they cannot perform a simple D&C without butchering the mother, they shouldn’t be doing it. The procedure is really not that difficult. Clean place. Clean instruments. Trained staff. Mechanically, no more difficult than extracting a tooth.
Murdering a baby in the womb is not rocket science.
They just don’t want to follow any rule or restriction on their slaughtering.
Yeah, it’s always those mean-old right wingers deciding the outcome. Never the leftists who vote in lockstep with no regards to the Constitution.
