51-year-old Anthony Ferrill was black. This meant that the media couldn't use its white supremacist narrative to justify grabbing guns.

The narrative broke down even further when social media posts revealed that Ferrill may well have been an Elizabeth Warren–supporter, an assumption arising from the fact that his wife proudly posted a selfie last year at an Elizabeth Warren rally:

On her various social media pages, which have now been deleted, Ferrill's wife posted photos of her family and expressing liberal political views. In July 2019, Ferrill's wife attended a speech by U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren at South Division High School Gym in Milwaukee. Following the speech, Ferrill's wife took a photo with the Massachusetts senator.

It appears to be a case of severe mental illness, of recent origin. The man believed his co-workers were sneaking into his house moving furniture, and messing with his computer.

No criminal history, had been a good neighbor, was long time married, with three children and employed as an electrician for 20 years.

He had persistent lower back problems and took medication for it.

I have not seen the report of a silencer confirmed.

Not disagreeing that use of the silencer demonstrates intent to get away (or perhaps just extend the killing time), but I am curious about what practical effect a sound suppressor actually had on his murder spree. As in — did it allow him to escape detection longer? I doubt it had any effect at all — “silencer” just seems scary to the media.

Most silencers are still pretty loud - ammo loads are generally filled to fire rounds at supersonic speeds, resulting in a sonic boom that a silencer doesn't affect. You can buy under-powdered subsonic ammo, but most people aren't gonna know to do that.

I do agree that the silencer seems to show planning/intent, but it could be something he's had for a while and just happened to grab on the way out the door.
