SACRAMENTO, Calif. Northern California school districts said they have been notified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, urging their sites to prepare for possible novel coronavirus outbreaks.
The CDC on Wednesday confirmed a case in Northern California that is possibly the first instance in the U.S. of community spread of COVID-19.
The Solano County patient had no known exposure to the virus through travel or close contact with a known infected individual, according to the California Department of Public Health.
Travis Unified School District and Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District said they were contacted by the CDC.
While this may be alarming to some parents, the risk to Solano County residents and the general public is still low at this time. We can assure you that our staff is doing everything in their power to keep school sites disinfected and clean for all students and staff, Travis Unified School District said in a statement posted on its website.
Additionally, the Elk Grove Unified School District said it received an advisory from state health officials Wednesday about the virus.

How does a district prepare for such a thing?
Prepare? Close schools, teach remotely. I suspect that is there response quickly enough. Once they do, it’ll spread. I won’t be surprised if we don’t see the same in Reno before Spring Break.
Districts do have pandemic plans. It was alluded to during last night’s newser.. Tele-teaching is one way.
California can’t even keep 3rd World diseases out of their state. How are they supposed to deal with something like this?
At least 10,000 people per week drive from Norcal to Reno.
Oh Noes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone Panic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope my son’s school starts the remote program soon. They already use various web based tools already. Over 50% of his fellow students are Chinese and Indians (tech corridor in Plano/Richardson/Allen area). I figure if it goes sideways, we are in ground zero.
You are the only one in panic.
“we are in ground zero”
If it does happen, Norcal will be ground zero.
SF, Silicon Valley, very large ethnic Chinese population throughout the north state.
If you hold your breath, you’ll be okay!
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Yes, we already get it on “Snow Days”.
So the influx of illegals and homeless poo in SF are good for their health. Who knew.
Yes, this is concerning and I won’t be surprised when Reno and Vegas both get their first victims.
Um, less than 3,000 people have died from this worldwide. Is 3,000 deaths now a pandemic?
25,000 have already died from influenza. Is this a pandemic in your world?
How were you able to leap from Fairfield schools to SF sh!t?
Is that how your mind always works? Does everything get to SF sh!t in 6 degrees of separation?
“My tolerance for that level of stupidity has hit a limit. “
Me too.
But since I don’t drink I have to zen it.
Like I said, if you sit in your basement, don’t eat, don’t drink, and hold your breath, you’ll be fine!
