A long-developing proxy clash in Syria between Russia and Turkey is very much moving into crisis mode, a senior American diplomat said amid reports that Turkish troops were attacked in an airstrike.
Oh my gosh, Kay Bailey Hutchison, the U.S. ambassador to NATO, exclaimed Thursday when she learned from journalists that more than 20 Turkish service members reportedly have been killed. Let me say this because I just learned this: Of course, everything is on the table. This is a new development. This is a big development.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called an emergency meeting of his national security team late Thursday as local media reported that Russia targeted a Turkish command post in Idlib. Turkish officials blamed the strike on Syrian dictator Bashar Assad, who has survived the civil war by virtue of Russian and Iranian military support for his regime.
"Turkey early Friday carried out missile attacks on targets in Syria's central Hama, northwestern towns of Nubl and Zahraa, as well as in regime and Russian bastion, Latakia, in response to the Assad regime airstrike that killed 22 Turkish soldiers," the Daily Sabah, a Turkish outlet, reported after the meeting.
Hutchison was troubled about the prospect of a crisis even before learning of that report because Russia is trying to help Syrian dictator Bashar Assad reconquer the last major rebel stronghold in Syria while Turkey backs opposition groups in the area in part due to fear that millions of Syrian civilians will flee to Europe if Assad wins the battle for Idlib.

I’ve started watching Turkish dramas, they’re pretty good.
There’s even one now they show on Univision called “Amor Eterno”, the leading actress is a real hottie.
In just a few years, Turkey has managed to alienate just about everyone except small groups of radical muslims that nobody likes.
We should have either kicked them out of NATO or left NATO after the invasion of Cyprus.
FYI
“It wasnt an attack on Turkey but on Turkish forces occupying part of Turkey. They may have their reasons, but if this was an attack on NATO then every attack against American troops abroad is an attack on NATO.”
No it isn’t. Turkey has invaded Syria, and they did so to assist rebels fighting the Syrian government. If the country you invade shoots back, that’s not an “attack on NATO”.
But even if it ever was, we are only required to “take whatever actions we deem necessary”. That could be a letter of protest. There is zero legal requirement for us to take military action.
I agree with you about the desecration of Constantinople and the Holy Hagia Sophia.
I also have a grievance against the Turks concerning the Armenian Genocide and their refusal to acknowledge their crimes.
The Turks can pound sand.
Turkey alligned themselves with Germany in WWI. And after initially being aligned with France and Britain in WWII, after they claimed neutrality, they continued to sell the Nazis the chromium they needed to build their weapons, and they also allowed the Nazis to sell the melted-down gold they stole from Jewish families. They can go piss up a rope for all I care.
I am enjoying Erdogan threatening Europe w/ an influx f refugees, aka, Jihadis from Idlib because his Turkish military were embedded w/ terrorists near Behun.
Photos of crying Turkish military. Protests in Turkey against Erdogan for sending the sons of Turkey to die.
A military coup against Erdogan in the works? That would be interesting.
If NATO attacks Russia, we should joiin in on Russia’s side. Screw those atheistic NATO countriee! Russia is our true natural ally.

BREAKING: Turkey is opening land and sea crossings to Europe for the NEXT 72 HOURS and Turkey will open the borders immediately. I wonder how many of the refugees over the next 72 hours will be Turks escaping Erdogans regime?

Turkey now bombing Syria in retaliation
I have no idea who bombed the Turks. The Russian military had the order to avoid or ignore them but Turks are shooting at Russian air assets at the same time and it produces nuisance. All in all Russians are flying CAS for the Syrians on the ground and they might easily illiminate Turks for attack or even US forces.
All this conflict is a Charlie Foxtrot of enormous proportions.
There were rumors of a couple of Mig-23s dashing away from the area with wings folded at Mach 2.3. So maybe they were Syrians who bombed the Turks.
Yep,she and “Queen Anne” Richards though different parties were cut from the same cloth. Keep them away from things that go “BOOM”.
Ann Richard’s was like a mini-Hitlery, minus the Arkansides...
;p
Minus the Arancides!? Richards was an out and out murderer for her role in Waco.
