Pence office to handle media on coronavirus © Greg Nash Vice President Pence's office is being given authority over media response and messaging on the coronavirus after he was tasked with overseeing the federal response to the disease, a person familiar with the arrangement confirmed Thursday.

The person said media requests related to the virus will be filtered through Pence's office rather than the White House press shop in an effort to further centralize the administration's response.

The shift in approach was first reported by The Washington Post and The New York Times.

The Times additionally reported that Anthony Fauci, a public health expert and leader of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, had been told not to make public statements without first clearing it with the White House. ...

Mixed feelings but more negative than good about this.

Multiple articles are claiming that all federal agencies have to clear their communications through Pence's office.

I'm thinking a mixed bag of communications is better than a bottleneck on communications.

Actually what you think doesn’t matter.

The president in executive action has developed and implemented the way forward with a team that has no superior in all the world.

That’s quite an assessment.

I hope it’s true.

But if the CDC is involved, you are going to be woefully disappointed. Those are the people who cannot get test kits together to protect our country. And then all of a sudden they are testing thousands.

But no one asks those questions.

It’s really a good thing isn’t going to be stopped with a vaccine, because I would hate to rely on these people for directions to McDonalds.

THANK GOD.

Now we won’t have Rosentein’s Sister or some random FDA dude’s downer statement cratering the Dow by 1,000+ points per day.

“Funny” how the Dow was up by > 450 points mid-day yesterday until some random FDA dude opened his yap and gave some doom and gloom opinion..then, it closed down 123 yesterday..then down ~1,200 today.

Things that make you go “hmmmm”.

This (hopefully) will stop that type of blatant market manipulation.

I’m fine with the team.

And I’d be fine with the team providing the general talking points to all federal agencies.

But I see channeling all communications through Pence’s office as a mistake. It’s going to slow down communications. It’s going to raise suspicions that the Feds aren’t being truthful with us. It’s going to block a lot of communication, some bad unwarranted out of line communication, but mostly good communication.

The communication and public feedback is important in recognizing when the ship is off course and getting it back on course.

Nothing unusual or nefarious about this. Just a way to keep the message consistent. Very important at a time when folks are on edge.

Pence at least has experience as a governor. Not sure what happened to his election fraud task force, but whatever.

The workers need to defer to management, political appointees and elected leaders to speak publicly. Fire anyone that talks out of turn. Reassign them, in this case, to go to China and collect data firsthand.

Dr. Faucci is a national treasure. He may not want to be in the media limelight on this - or maybe he does. I would have made him point man, but it’s OK.

This is a political response to the politicization of the disease. By putting Pence in as head of this task force, President Trump insulates himself from the task force. If the task force does well, Pence is a hero and set up for 2024. If the task force does poorly, then President Trump can blame Pence.

Mixed feelings but more negative

Well, I think that this is an incredibly positive step forward. I have a very high regard for Trump and his capabilities, but he does have limitations, and apparently he is aware of his limitations and when he needs to delegate to others, which is actually a strength.

When it comes to calm, clear, consistent messaging, Pence is far far better - in fact, Pence is as good as anyone around when it comes to staying on message.

Trump's strength is creating chaos in the minds of idiots. It has served him and us well. But this situation needs a different approach.

I’m thinking the picture you have in your head is not gonna be the way it actually works...Trump is efficiency-based and even if a bottleneck does occur, he will be sure to adapt....the “structure” is fluid and brain-based.
