Bernie will bring them back.
.....The fact that it employed four or five dozen young female cashiers was its main attraction.
..,,
True. ...the hot checkout gal always had a line of young men buying silly, frivolous things. ....the store manager loved it. The old married women would huddle and gossip. ...good times. ....nowadays, you go to jail for looking at a pretty gal.
It won’t work in places where shoplifting is not prosecuted. It doesn’t help if you know who took stuff, if you can’t make something happen to him.
So you already know how to " dig a hole, you put a seed in, you put dirt on top, add water . . ."?
:-)
I guess the government can be pretty efficient when it comes to extracting money from we, the great unwashed.
My wife worked for a time at the Nelson County tag office and was surprised at how many people who came in and could not renew their tags because of unpaid tolls and fines from the bridge. And the fines mount up fast and hard.
People would get toll bills that they didn't think were theirs (correctly or not) and simply toss them. BIG PITA $$ mistake.
One woman loaned her car to her daughter and figured since she wasn't driving the car the toll wasn't her responsibility. As she learned the hard way, the toll belongs to the car owner, not the driver.
In the British sitcom "The Last of the Summer Wine" they have a married character who is trying to carry on an affair with a 50-year-old hottie sales clerk. He always shows up and buys a tube of glue.
His wife finds out about it and forces him to set up a table outside the house, selling his mounds of glue tubes. She then glues him (shoes) behind the table so he doesn't wander off.
Pretty funny episode.
The only thing missing is a high trust society.
How do they weigh veggies?”””
Segment on TV last night said that veggies would be sold by ‘the each’. Let me know how that works for grapes. & bananas.
Also- NO printed receipt.....NO THANKS. I want to know exactly what I paid for....ON A RECEIPT.
That’s it! What could be simpler, except coding?
“moderate skill job? Its a low skill job that is being automated.”
Compared to the self-check “monitor”?
Cashiers are always paid more than minimum wage (at least used to be). These “monitors” are minimum wage, I am sure. I am comparing what is being traded for what, not suggesting that cashiers run nuclear power plants.
FR is a funny place. “MAGA, but only if it’s cheap for me”. I get it. Memes about people who follow their phones around like zombies from people who say, “I hate checkout people, they’re rude!” and don’t want to interact with humans.
On-line is the ultimate in “automation”. Everyone works for UPS or FedEx and you never leave your house. As long as you only want cheap crap from China, you’re all set!
Ditto
Just think how much more efficient that will be when every customer has an embedded hand chip. /s
...grapes and nanners sold by "the bunch"...
Also- NO printed receipt
...receipt is sent to your phone...
...being an "old" hi-tech redneck...
...I'm with you on the printed receipt thingy...
...but...
...as I've heard a bazillion times from those young-uns...
...Ok Boomer...
...lol...
Okay, thanks. Just wondering.
:)
What could go wrong?
I can’t wait to see what happens.
Nothing. They have to make up for shrinkage.
