So far, 16,000 people have died and 280,000 people have been hospitalized during the 2019-2020 flu season, according to preliminary estimates from the CDC.
"The flu season began early this year and took off aggressively," added Schaffner. "It began prominently in the southeastern states but quickly spread. So far, there is no sign that the momentum of the annual epidemic is slowing." In total, the CDC estimates that 29 million people have gotten the flu so far this season.

I’ve been mostly in bed for over a week with viral crud (flu/strep ruled out). Work weekends but missed whole schedule last weekend. Have to work tomorrow, but still not well...grrr. I’m old and have mild COPD so flu would probably do me in at this stage of life...sigh. I did take flu shot so maybe that helped.
Who says government agencies can’t keep secrets? The CDC certainly kept this information of millions of flu deaths close to the vest until the coronavirus news broke.
It’s pretty pathetic that the mortality rate of the flu is so high, but it does help keep Medicare from going bankrupt, since most of the deaths are senior citizens.

I got the flu shot in October. Unlike the previous several times, this one made me very sick for a couple of days. But no flu, so there is that. The same happened a few years ago.

That’s a .00055 death rate. This Corona virus has a significant higher rate at least in China. Time will tell what it will be in the West.

The vaccine doesn’t prevent the flu. It greatly lessens the chances and the severity.
