Trump's Chances For Re-election Are Looking Better and Better

Donald Trump has at least five strong historical arguments for his re-election.

One, he is an incumbent. Incumbent presidents have won 14 of 19 re-election bids since 1900.

The few who lost did not enjoy positive approval ratings. In a Gallup poll from earlier this month, Trump enjoyed his highest approval rating since his inauguration, squeezing out a 49 percent favorable rating vs. 50 percent unfavorable.

Two, the public perception of the economy usually determines any presidential election -- as incumbents Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush and Herbert Hoover learned the hard way. Currently, the U.S. is enjoying low inflation, low interest rates, positive economic growth, near-record low-unemployment, rising workers' wages, and record gas and oil production.

Three, unpopular optional wars derail incumbent presidencies.

The quagmire in Vietnam convinced Lyndon Johnson not to run for re-election in 1968. Jimmy Carter was tarnished by the seemingly never-ending Iranian hostage crisis of 1979-1981. The Iraq War drove down George W. Bush's second-term approval ratings and helped derail his would-be Republican successor, John McCain.

Four, scandals also can destroy a presidency, as when Watergate forced the resignation of Richard Nixon.

Five, the opponent matters. Barry Goldwater was caricatured as an out-of-touch extremist and made incumbent Lyndon Johnson's election a sure thing in 1964. George McGovern's radicalism ensured that Richard Nixon would be re-elected in 1972. Ronald Reagan was assured of a second term by Walter Mondale's anemic candidacy.

I’m always praying for Trump to win in November. But I try to be humble. Hopefully the House switches back an the Senate stays Republican.

It is now.

The problem is coronavirus hysteria. Specifically, the Deplorables' natural distrust of the govt is manipulated in a judo move to derail Trump. To wit: why is Trump basically saying be cool and we got this...yet liberal and NeverTrumper elements in America and the Deep State are chatting up a pandemic?

The answer is, to sweep up folks normally supportive of Trump into the mania, and to bring about a recession. That, and Dem fraud, are the ONLY things that can cause the demise of Trump.

I know that’s what you hope. But I think you will be disappointed. Cheers.

Just stating a fact. Please feel free to bury your head in the sand and take the November election as a given. You may well wake up on November 4th a very disappointed man and you can ask Hillary supporters what that feels like. Me, I think we should run as if we are five points behind up to election day and take nothing for granted. That's how you win, incumbent or no.

How can it be a fact when it hasn’t happened yet? There is no comparison between Trump and Hillary. One is a winner the other a loser. Cheers.

The only way I can see Trump losing is if the coronavirus derails the economy or if Trump makes some huge blunder between now and November.

" It’s 8 months till the election. A lot can happen."

Virus panic being pumped by the deep state has cost people a LOT OF MONEY in the markets. This will have a negative effect if things don't turn around bigly.

This loss in the market is VERY big folks. 401K and IRA levels are many voters best indication of the economy and that has been a bloodbath since the panic.

The only potential issue I see is deep state fraud, otherwise his “competition” are all flaming idiots.

In my lifetime, only one incumbent elected president has really lost reelection after serving one full term, when the other party had two terms before he took office. and that is Jimmy Carter.
Bush senior doesn't count cause he was Reagan's third term. Ford was never elected in the first place. Johnson was two perms cause he finished JFK's first term, then had his own full term.
With the kind of economy we have and the funny candidates running against hi, Trump will smash these jokers like a guitar.

You don't think Trump and the DHS haven't thought of that do you?
Will there be some fraud? Yes.
Will it be as easy as usual? Nope.

Six - who do the 'rats have to run against the President? A racist; a liar; a senile old white guy; an avowed communist; or an inexperienced small town mayor. There are a few other also-rans still hanging in there - further fracturing their base.

Seven - the 'rats have no platform. From the moment Mr. Trump became President-Elect Trump the 'rats have had just one overriding issue, one focus: get/thwart President Trump and his Make America Great Again agenda. Hmm, one has to wonder why they are so against MAGA? Suppose the extremely unlikely happens, and a 'rat actually wins the Presidency. It is not too difficult to picture a bunch of 'rats sitting around quietly with stunned, dumbfounded, and lost looks on their faces wondering "What do we do now?" Then there would be a Dr. Evil moment "Let's just do what we always do." Although instead of hijacking a nuclear weapon and holding the world hostage for the 'rats it would be raise taxes; expand government; tank the economy; help illegals over citizens; coddle criminals; kill babies by the thousands; and go after our freedoms, liberties, and rights. Oh, and while doing all these things, make up or over-blow some gender/equality/sexuality issues to beat up on the pro-freedom, pro-liberty conservatives as a distraction.

I think President Trump is about to pull a beautiful move on the deep-state. They’re pushing the panic button, and at least initially getting the reaction they want - markets down on worries about production problems in China. Watch, President Trump is going to turn this around on them. Something along the lines of this is exactly why his administration put tariffs in place, to encourage businesses to come back home. Maybe he can point to a few successes, companies/industries poised to move production here. In short, turn this into a big plus for US based businesses. We don’t need China. We have the energy, the workers, the market. Timing is everything, the President’s team is probably just letting the deep state hang themselves on this a little bit more...

Truman could have run again in 1952, but he was too unpopular because of the Korean War. Eisenhower would have beaten him easily.
