In the early 1990s, the population of Bend was around 25,000 and leaned Republican. A lumber mill operated along the banks of the Deschutes River in Oregons high-desert country.
Today, the lumber mill is an REI outdoor recreation store. The population has quadrupled. And for the first time in memory, the number of registered Democrats in Deschutes County recently eclipsed the number of Republicans.
The transformation shows how demographic shifts and the GOPs tack further to the right are helping push the party into a nosedive along the West Coast.
The last Republican presidential candidate that California went for was George H.W. Bush. For both Oregon and Washington, it was Ronald Reagan. Now, Republicans are struggling to hold seats in Congress, statehouses and city councils up and down the coast. [ ]
Political districts have flipped in population centers, from San Diego in the south to Seattle in the north.
There is no way out, Chris Vance, a former Washington state Republican Party chairman and legislator, said in a telephone interview.

The AP’s monthly U.S. demographics article. They seem a tad obsessed.
It’s true but it isn’t. Yes they are taking over the country with illegals.
But yes, it should be possible for republicans to compete for the votes of illegals’ kids who became citizens. There certainly is no law against persuading a voter.
Amnesty for illegal aliens will make the entire US like California.
Flimsey Grahamnesty and pals must be replaced.
It isn’t demographics. It is relentless propaganda, according to the plan instituted by the USSR back in the 1930s.
We have not been pushing back against the propaganda effectively.
There is no logical reason that *anyone* should fall for liberalism. Not if they value freedom and prosperity.
Legal immigration will make the Dems the permanent majority party within a decade. Demography is destiny.
Immigration moratorium NOW.
Tax all remittances.
WHAT?! Push further to the right? Only 6 years ago the dems were against illegal immigration. The GOP has moved left if anything. The contrast the lunatics perceive is precisely because the ideological norms of the libs in their bubble have gone so far left, they can't see the right anymore.
GOP never supported abortion, let alone post birth abortion. The GOP never supported "Sanctuary Cities" let alone Sanctuary states and open boarders. The right never supported over-regulation let alone SOCIALISM. The right never supported higher taxes and spending (sorta) let alone a "Green New Deal". The right never supported "free Healthcare" let alone Medicare for all including illegal immigrants. It's the left that is now pushing for voting rights for illegals and laws against "hate speech", defined by their feelings only, of course. Everything they now stand for is anti-American in every sense of the word. They have gone off the reservation. They are in treasonous territory with their ideology. The right hasn't moved right since Reagan. Trump may have stalled the GOP move to the left at best.
These clowns are certifiable.
No use.
By the time theyve grown up the left wing education system will have them fully indoctrinated.
Look at the youth today. Cranking communists out of colleges today like crazy.
“There is no way out,”
I think the Republucan is saying he wants to leave, too, but hasn’t found a way yet.
This “author” is seriously into the use of legalized pot, anyway. The jobs have left. The Conservatives and their families have left. All that’s left is you pot-headed trannies and your REI store full of cheap Chinese crap. Good luck with that.
He moans about Republicans tacking further right while he tries to figure out which bathroom to use. What a moron.
“Legal immigration will make the Dems the permanent majority party within a decade. Demography is destiny.”
Sadly correct unless mass deportations take place or unless they can be influenced to self-deport (like today’s N.Y. Times story is hand-wringing about) by taking away the welfare state incentives that make it so lucrative for them to invade & occupy the U.S.
Even if the door were slammed shut TODAY on both illegal and (third-world) legal immigration, the damage is already done due to the fact that the third-worlders reproduce like cockroaches while other demographic groups do not.
Try and keep up, today’s news is Court supports pulling funds from sanctuary cities and that means the door is open to bust down on illegals and the fake votes they represent. The noose is tightening and the Demo Piggies are squealing big time
Couple that with the ruling that access to Federal programs like Snap and others is tightening and the days of untethered free stuff is ending, quickly
Asspress has infinite faith that fools, zombies, stooges, and idiots will read their drivel.
So let’s talk about a demographic trend that goes in the favor or Republicans:
1) A major reason why Trump won Pennsylvania in 2016 was due to the major migration of conservative Marylanders who moved north of the Mason-Dixon line to southern Pennsylvania. This exodus still continues, as PA has lower income taxes, land is cheaper, and property tax is cheaper. York and Lancaster counties in PA are basically loaded with Maryland citizens in exile.
Can anybody name other examples?
All of the efforts of President Trump will be for naught if Grahamnesty and pals get the amnesty he has voted for THREE times.
Thank you GOP establishment for encouraging illegal immigration and for doing nothing about the takeover of education by the left. Just stuffed your pockets while the country was being attacked from many directions. Evil bastards.
Agree, the screw is turning
For those that say “this isn’t demographics” what is your plan to turn California Red?
You don’t have one, and you are telling yourself things that are not true.
