The U.S. Army recently deployed the first full brigade combat team with all of its equipment to Germany to take part in DEFENDER-Europe 20, a large-scale exercise designed to hone the service's prowess in rapid-deployment operations.
The 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, out of Fort Stewart, Georgia, is part of a division-size force of 20,000 U.S. soldiers that will descend upon Europe over the next few months in the largest deployment of U.S. land forces in the last 25 years.

Good luck great Americans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was the big one going to Europe.
The two big ones in the states were Bold Eagle and Solid Shield.
Over the years I have noticed that Camp Swampy AKA Ft. Stewart, seems to be the one called on when the rubber meets the road.
Hardly a first. Maybe for calendar year 2020.
Back in the good old days, entire divisions routinely deployed to Germany onto POMCUS stocks to participate in REFORGER.
The German farmers were the big winners then. Lots of maneuver damage $$$$$ came their way.
Why? The Yurps are not our allies. Bring the boys home and withdraw from NATO.
IIRC, didn’t REFORGER rely on equipment being kept in Europe? If the brigade is bringing all its gear with it instead of relying on Europe-stationed equipment, that would be something new in the post-WW2 era.
[Son of REFORGER?
Never happened before??]
Maybe because so much is computerized now
I guess this dates me...I was in REFORGER 1!
Get out of NATO.
Too many western European nations have drifted dangerously close to fascism. And then there is Turkey.
Form an alliance with Russia, India, Japan, South Korea and central European nations like Poland.
The alliance being predicated on containing islam and persuading China to stop being the Asian bully.
Fighting yesterday’s war. Get to work on the drone swarms!
They could have done that pre-computer too. But we’re storing less stuff in Europe these days, so this may very well be the first deployment where the brigade brings ALL their gear and vehicles with them.
Drone swarms aren’t going to be around for a while. You want untrained, inexperienced troops in the meantime?
Fort Bragg, 82nd Airborne too.
3rd Infantry Division is the heavy (mech infantry / armor) fist of XVIII Airborne Corps.
I was in on two REFORGERS in Germany while stationed there from 77-80. Seems to me a lot of troops and equipment came over for that.
Used to be the 24th Infantry Division (Mechanized).
A latter-day REFORGER?
