A senior member of the International Olympic Committee said Tuesday that if it proves too dangerous to hold the Olympics in Tokyo this summer because of the coronavirus outbreak, organizers are more likely to cancel it altogether than to postpone or move it.
Dick Pound, a former Canadian swimming champion who has been on the IOC since 1978, making him its longest-serving member, estimated there is a three-month window perhaps a two-month one to decide the fate of the Tokyo Olympics, meaning a decision could be put off until late May. ...

The Tokyo Olympics isn’t happening for another 8 years.
I wonder if Dick Pound was ever in the military, the torment would have been merciless and never ending.
Private Pound, Dick, reporting for duty.
NBC will take a hit I would guess.
Premature to to talk about cancelling the summer olympics. One would hope Coronavirus would burn itself out by then.
Dick Pound?
Can’t make this stuff up!
Scheduled to open July 24
Sorry about that. I confused it with 2028 in Los Angeles. Brain fart on my part.
He’s Canadian......He’s been head of the World Anti Doping Agency for a while now. Was a member of the IOC executive board but no longer it appears.
Maybe the man upstairs is doing this to take down globalism? I gal can dream.
Looks like he isn’t part of WADA anymore either. Must be retired. :)
They are so canceled, with no new date set.
It happens. LA with its homeless problem might prove to be problematic too.
NO, don’t cancel the Olympics, I’m currently ranked 3rd on the U.S. beer-drinking team, time-trials begin next week.
He better hurry up and decide what with China sending their teams here to train. Their 60 member rowing team has been here for a while first in TX State Univ. in San Marcos, currently in Austin and then 24 will go on to Baylor Univ. in Waco.
Given the sanitary habits of the Japanese, I would take my chances with the coronavirus in Tokyo over typhoid or cholera in Los Angeles.
He could have just gone by Rich. If he’s using that nickname for Richard, it’s because he likes the pun.
There’s was a guy named Kim Clement with a decent track record of prophecies but apparently he admits to being wrong some of the time. Not sure what to make of that. If he’s wrong at all, can you trust anything he said. He died a month after Trump took office.
Anyway, he said that Trump was going to take down the 3 giants. IIRC they were globalism, socialism and debt.
Trump was already making progress on globalism, but not as much as I wanted to see. Coronavirus is giving that a rocket boost.
Socialism looks on the fence, now that Democrats are being forced to either embrace it or reject it. If it comes down to the ultimate capitalist (Trump) vs the country’s best known socialist with 3 houses (Sanders). Socialism is going to suffer a major humiliating defeat.
Which leaves Debt. The yield on the 10 year treasury just hit a record low, which will help us finance the debt. I presume Economic growth will eventually take out the debt.
Once worked with a guy named Dick Long.
the agony of defeat
He should have asked everyone to call him “Richie”
