Democrats warm up for big debate, unloading on Sanders

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Bernie Sanders’ Democratic rivals prepared to unleash a new wave of attacks against the party’s presidential front-runner in a high-stakes debate Tuesday night, perhaps their final prime-time opportunity to change the direction of the 2020 nomination fight.

Almost all of the six other candidates set to debate in South Carolina went after Sanders in the hours leading up to the 8 p.m. EST affair.

Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, highlighted Sanders’ call for a government-financed health care system as an example of his “polarization.” Former Vice President Joe Biden accused Sanders of trying to undermine President Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection. And former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg assailed Sanders’ record on gun control.

Five Bloomberg supporters, all current or former black elected officials, blasted Sanders’ record on gun control as well as other priorities for the black community on Tuesday.

“Too often, Bernie Sanders has been on the wrong side of history, missing in action or unable to make progress on virtually every issue for black voters,” New York Rep. Gregory Meeks told reporters, predicting that viewers would “see a 180-degree shift tonight” from Bloomberg after his lackluster showing in last week’s Democratic debate.

The new wave of infighting came as Democrats were set to meet for the party’s 10th debate of the 2020 primary season. Bloomberg was the focus last week for his highly anticipated debut, but after a bad performance that froze his momentum, the knives are out for the 78-year-old Vermont senator.

The night marks a major moment in Sanders’ political career. After spending decades as an outside agitator accustomed to attacking the party establishment, he’s suddenly the one on defense as the Democratic establishment fears he could build an insurmountable delegate lead as soon as next week.

I hope he gets a big sympathy vote.

If he handles this right, he can make the mob bullying work to his advantage.

Go, Bernie!

So, I wonder if anyone is going to be brave enough to bring up The Bern’s really weird and perverted rantings of the past. I’m almost tempted to watch.

The Rats are telling you who they fear/hate.

So, you Super Tuesday conservative voters know what to do (if you can cross over, that is).

Funny video of Obama and Pete side by side with Pete lifting specific cadences and phrases from Obama. Saw it on twitter.

Lets see how good the Berns heart is. Stress the Mofo out and see how well he gets on.

I actually want to see him to lose a couple primaries so the rest stay in and suck the whole thing dry.

Stay tuned and remember, eat more popcorn. Help the farmers.

They’ll all back him when he wins the nomination. They have no choice.

Liz was almost acting as a proxy for Bernie last time. I expect that to continue. She’s angling for VP or a cabinet position.

Me, too, but I can’t (weak stomach); figure that’s what Youtube is for. :)

But if anyone brings up those rants, then we know for a fact the DNC does NOT want Bernie anywhere near a nomination and then the long knives come out.

Bloomberg could easily finance a third party run...

and he _does_ have a choice.

Agreed—it would be a major tactical blunder for Warren to attack Bernie. If she can hang in there she will look good for the VP nod.

She should continue attacking Bloomberg. Her supporters love it—she needs to stay in her lane.

I wonder if tonight will be an escalation and continuation of the last debate or turn out dull and inconclusive? Last week the focus of anger was on Bloomberg, now Sanders? Circular firing squad. Who’s turn next, Buttboy?

I agree with the strategy of crossover voting for Bernie in the primaries. He can get 100% of the delegates and still be denied the nom. And then the fun starts

I agree, enough of sneaking around, get it out. Bernie has already won the battle of ideas in the party.

[Go, Bernie!]

Bernie is doing an excellent job showing that most Democrats prefer a crazy Socialist / Communist who is completely ridiculous with his crazy ideas.

It’s interesting. Bernie is doing to Democrats what Trump did to Republicans in 2016. Bernie’s support won’t be affected by stories from the past, just like Trump wasn’t. He has by far the best organization and the rest are terrible at “candidating”.

And I mean terrible. We are still a TV society and Bernie actually looks better than the rest of those nincompoops put together even though he’s ancient.

The only hope to beat Bernie is for all the rest except Biden to drop out, and let the choice be those two. That would make it closer.

They are too selfish, it won’t happen.

Hillary is the wild card. She’s at 4.5% in the betting odds and she isn’t even in the race.
