I remember an old joke about picking up the United States, tilting it just right, shaking it, and everything lose falls into California.

This bill will make that so, with a vengeance.

I was thinking of going to Cali to buy a nice conversion camper. Then I started looking at buying a recent model box truck that needed an engine and fabricating a custom one.

Maybe I should get one in Cali, park it, and start collecting money.

Cali is essentially Venezuela. Living fat on Tech and a strong market/economy. But then a black swan occurs...

With the existing state and local sales tax.... it will actually be around 17%.

CA is evolving into a state with the rich and the very poor.

A 20% VAT is something the upper class will barely notice.

As CA is already a high tax state, its business climate isn’t going to get that much worse.

well, that should take care of California’s budget surplus real quick.

And I’ll take it - just to help bankrupt the state into reality.

A VAT is NOT a sales tax. It is much more insidious.

“A value-added tax (VAT) is a tax levied at each step in the production and distribution process on a taxable item or service. Instead of imposing a tax on the final sale price of a taxable item, a VAT taxes the increase in the value of the product or service as it moves from initial manufacture to final sale.”

“Since the “pay out” flat, this would be a massive income transfer scheme. The top income tax rate is already 12.3%. This will absolutely kill the California economy.”

Don’t forget that now SALT deductions are limited to $10K and that they won’t be able to shift the tax burden on the rest of the country. Sucks to be them.

I assume this money would be subject to income taxes and social security taxes and would be part of the income eligibility determination for various state welfare programs. That free money may not look so good

The real irony is that if you happen to be one of the people who is a net payer into the system, you cannot deduct the SALT that you pay in, but undoubtedly will have to pay at whatever your incremental federal income tax rate is to the IRS. A truly double hit. For your $12,000 in income maintenance, you wind up paying an additional $20,000 in state taxes and then get hit with another $2,400 in Federal Tax on the measly 12k you get back. Sux to be you.

Serves ‘em right.

Yang is a moron.

It’s amazing how quickly our society is racing to the bottom. Universal guaranteed income has been a total failure everywhere it’s tried. Yet these stupid people keep trying to do it. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

Here in California, yes it is.

Mexico is a two tiered “nation”: the hyper rich and the peons.

That’s what the white Democrats and the Mexicans in their party want.

Then they get to live like kings while the little people do their yards for them. The American middle class here stands in the way of that. So they have to go.

Everything they are doing would convince a reasonable person that that’s the case.

Not exactly..there are more middle class than you know.

That’s what the white Democrats and the Mexicans in their party want.

Doubt that....the Mexicans want to be their "peons"...

Then they get to live like kings while the little people do their yards for them. The American middle class here stands in the way of that. So they have to go.

How do you see that happening? You do realize there are many Mexican families living in CA..that are middle class..and have lived there for 50 years...Right?

Everything they are doing would convince a reasonable person that that’s the case.

I'm very reasonable...used to be a middle class SoCal person.. Just don't think there is a conspiracy to do what is happening....

Dumb leftist politics..yeah. I think you are wrong...on some things. FWIW-

Sooooo...you left SoCal to go to OK because...?

I could go point by point on your “everything is beautiful” lines above, but you won’t be convinced. But one point: is there a conspiracy?

Of course there is. Just let all the Reconquistas themselves tell you: they plan to overrun the joint, and if you think the Beeg Men (DeLeon, Villaraigosa, Becerra, Torres, Padilla, Rendon, Cedillo...the list goes on) are doing it just for ethnic solidarity, I have a lovely villa in Polanco to sell you for next to nothing.

These people have spent the last 50 years deconstructing every law the American populace of California put up to end the takeover. Prop 187? Overturned by a corrupt Federal judge, and then intentionally not appealed by Gray Davis, which lead to him being de-governerized. No drivers licenses for illegals? “One Bill Gil” finally got his wish when that was pushed through. Now we all have to get a REAL ID license because California licenses aren’t worth spit. Anyone can get one.

And that is why Southern California - formerly the jewel in the American crown - is now ethnically majority Mexican.

And if you just shrug and say “that’s the way it goes” then we really have nothing to talk about.
