We are asking the American public to work with us to prepare for the expectation that this is going to be bad, said Dr. Nancy Messonnier, director of the CDCs National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention outlined Tuesday what schools and businesses will likely need to do if the COVID-19 virus becomes a pandemic.
Schools should consider dividing students into smaller groups or close and use internet-based teleschooling, Dr. Nancy Messonnier, director of the CDCs National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, told reporters on a conference call.
For adults, businesses can replace in-person meetings with video or telephone conferences and increase teleworking options, Messonnier said.

“Many of the standard reasons to gather lots of people into one building or one city no longer matter.”
Your post is right on. This is an excellent opportunity to teach and train people about how LITTLE they need govt. That would certainly be a silver lining in this “teachable moment,” as the leftists like to say.
When this thing first broke in China, the online gaming stocks skyrocketed because everyone stayed home playing games and gambling on their phones. Same with food delivery.
Yes because China dug up roads, shut down cities, and welded people inside houses and forcefully sent people to quarantine camps all because of the “flu”
Every Country that borders Iran has shut the border down because of the “flu”
I hate to say it, but Trump is gonna need a coronavirus ‘czar’ soon to coordinate responses and stop agencies like CDC going to rogue and sending mixed or contradictory messages to public and corrupt media.
That happens every year in my rural area. They will close for a 5 day weekend, do a thorough cleaning of the school and it helps until you get the lazy ass parents who will send their sick kid to school because they can’t afford or don’t want to stay home with their sick child and the process starts all over again. My kids have been in classrooms where they have had to combine the classes because the teachers and subs were out sick.

Face masks, yes, but I was able to score hand sanitizer at Walmart last night.
Looked like some of the very last, and was stuffed way back in the bottom shelf -- nearly impossible to see.
Yep. Who wants to take the subway in NYC if this really gets going?
“Something good could come out of thisthe first hint that we _can_ survive without expensive brick and mortar schools.”
Hmmm, this reminds of all the parents who swore they were going to do something different and protect their children more after Sandy Hook. I wonder what ever happened to all those good intentions...
All this has to do is take hold in the homeless encampments.
Then the fun starts.
True that !
Especially true since there is adequate medical care and sanitation ,
and where the medical facilities and healthcare workers are not yet overwhelmed.
Want to see overwhelmed (?): check out Wuhan,China.
Im a firefighter , you cant teleconference , you have to go to work. Along with just about every other job
Facts.....
1. China has presented a Chernobyl defense....no radiation here...You cannot believe the Chinese government, nor the hyperbolic ‘free press” reports from there.....However, based on the very extreme response the Chicoms had regarding this viral outbreak, one would suspect that its communicability and lethality is far higher than reported.
2. Our trading partners are now infected, Europe is heading towards lockdown. We can no longer expect that our travel restrictions can stem the flow. This is not surprising, the Spanish flu in 1918 made it to the Marshall Islands. No-one was safe. Trump did a great job of slowing it down however only God could stop this virus. Slowing it down gave us a chance to study it and prepare.
3. Prepare a Home Emergency Kit now. A large bottle of NSAIDS, Gatorade or another equivalent, Pepto Bismal or other antidiarrheal, and a number of antihistamines. These won’t prevent the virus but may help you survive it...If you can get a prescribed anti-viral from your doctor it may be helpful although not proven for this virus. Prepare to shelter in place for several weeks.
Boy Scout Motto: Be prepared!
We went through a closing of everything in the polio epidemic in the 50’s. Not sure how deep the closings were, but in my area, it was just about everything but the grocery stores.
We didn’t have computers and not everyone had TVs.. and no cell phones.. Today everyone would panic without their conveniences.
God help our nation and Your people.
Ok, so using your logic, we should be seeing huge increases in transmission, infections and deaths in the next week or so in all areas which didn’t tear up roads etc, correct?
COVID-19: 2,628 deaths reported world wide with 0 in the states.
Flu: 291,000 to 646,000 deaths world wide; 12,000 to 61,000 in the US per year.
COVID-19: Approximately 80,000 cases worldwide; 35 here in the US
Flu: Estimated 1 Billion cases worldwide; up to 45 million cases in the US

Aren’t most/all of those Italian deaths Asians
Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
I hate to say it, but Trump is gonna need a coronavirus czar soon to coordinate responses and stop agencies like CDC going to rogue and sending mixed or contradictory messages to public and corrupt media.

I agree!
My first thought was “Why should this model not be a norm for schools?”.
