Dozens Injured as Car Runs Into Carnival Parade in Germany

Roughly 30 people, including many children, were injured when a car crashed into a carnival procession in a small town near the German city of Kassel, police said on Monday.

Local police said they believed the driver rammed his car on purpose into a crowd of revelers in the town of Volkmarsen during the popular carnival celebrations. The man, identified by the local prosecutor’s office as a 29-year-old German from the town where the incident took place, was detained immediately after the incident.

The news organizations are calling the event a “Carnival parade.” Although Shrove Tuesday is called Carnival in some countries, in Germany it’s known as Fasching or Fastnacht.
