Paramounts Sonic the Hedgehog has taken the top spot at the box office for the second weekend in a row.
It is a win of sorts for Jim Carrey, who makes a comeback in a leading role as the movies villain, Dr. Robotnik. But unfortunately for Carrey, who has built a second career as a vociferous critic of President Donald Trump, Sonic is a deeply conservative film which may explain its success.
First of all, the (human) hero of the film is a small-town police officer, Tom Wachowski, played by James Marsden. The villain is a Deep State agent who uses high-tech drones and surveillance technology and operates above the law in his quest to capture Sonic, a traveler from another dimension whose powers are deemed a national security threat.
Dr. Robotnik is almost a parody of the American elite, constantly sneering at the plebeians with whom he must deal, presuming his intellectual pedigree entitles him to rule. One almost expects him to refer to them as deplorables. Carrey may have contempt for Trump and his supporters in real life but on screen, he plays a caricature of himself and portrays the type of villain who fits perfectly into the MAGA movements populist narrative.

Sonic hasn't been cool since the SEGA Genesis in the 1990s.
This is a dumb thing to argue over.
These hollyweirdos have no problem with the dichotomy when it suits their needs.
They can flaunt guns and shoot people in their movies, earning big bucks, while detesting the right for citizens to protect themselves.
They can pretend to care for the American Way when their own preferences are just opposite, as long as they are pampered.
Just the way it is.
I have never found Jim Carrey to be entertaining in any way.
Two points are proven. One, that the principles of a liberal like this actor are malleable when it comes to money. Two, he may have overlooked his supposed principles to take the role because he’s too stupid to see the theme. Both points work for me.
His movies have always made me nauseous, literally.
Easy battle so I’m pickin’ it. LOL!
the studio exec is an acquaintance of mine and gave me the studio copy 2 months ago. Just didnt have it in me to tell him that I hate anti Trump Carrey and would rather see the mating ritual of African beetles on National geographic. Haven’t seen it but the interns liked it for some reason.
Its a cartoon, based on a cartoon game.
How could it “be” anything?
Jim Carrey is Canadian. He’s been doing anti-American stuff for a long time.
I played Sonic on my PS2 when I was a kid LOL. No one here is arguing if it’s not cool etc. We are making a point that Jim Carrey is a loser lefty asshole.
Yeah well kneel young was from canaDUH most of his life now an American citizen whining (like his singing) about PDJT. Hey kneel, fah Q
I have not seen a Hollywood movie in years.
I wouldn’t go to the movie theater if they paid me to.
Stock up your home food supply, - it’s beginning to look like a world wide pandemic is inevitable. People will just stay in their homes.
Hollywood is going broke.
I don’t think I’ll be taking any moral cues from a movie about a videogame character.
Jim Carrey’s mouth is still running long after brain has died.
Its not a cartoon. I took my kids and was pleasantly surprised. I fully expected to be bored or annoyed, but it was a sweet story about friendship.
I didnt know Carrey was in it until his character showed up, but as irritating as he is, he played the villain well.
Not my point. My point is that sometimes a movie is just a movie.
It doesn’t have a political message. I feel at times that some people (on both sides) look for a message where there isn’t one.
So, in a general sense, a movie is just a movie. Its neither left nor right. Its just a movie.

Not a review of the movie you saw. I am glad you enjoyed it. We all neeed that nowadays,.
Sometimes, Hollywood does make conservative things without even knowing it. I hate Joss Whedon too much to have watched Firefly, but conservatives seem to love it and the consensus is that the idiot made a series upholding the values he constantly rails against.
I didn’t know till recently that that Young was Canadian. I wouldn’t even have wasted a moment being annoyed if I had known that.
