A long time ago, each year one my daughters hit six grade, they had a program at school where each student dressed as a “famous American” and gave a little presentation about the American. Private school, lots of doctor’s kids.
Always there was one Indian kid who dressed as Trump.
The love affair has been long.
(This was all pre-presidency.)

Tulsi Gabbard (in real life) is a Hindu, whose American Parents had converted to Hinduism.
“Tulsi”, after which she was named, is a an herb, sometimes called “Holy Basil”, that Hindus often keep growing in their house, or out in front.
Although only a junior Member of Congress, she has been courted by the Indian Government, and has visited India at their invitation.
Amb. Nikki Haley, on the other hand, is the child of (Sikh) Indian immigrants to the USA.
India can be a powerful ally of the USA, and Indian Americans could be an valuable addition to the Republican coalition. Compared to the average, Indian Americans are often very highly educated, productive and self-sufficient.
I’m watching the 3 hour stream replay now. Very impressive that the Indians brought out the Camel Corps for POTUS! Looks like an Indian Durbar of old times.
India is the prime alternative to China, for low cost manufactured goods. They have long been at a guns drawn condition against China in the North (Siachen Glacier), and China is the main sponsor of India’s nemesis, Pakistan.
In reality, India’s population has probably now passed that of China. Their growth rate is higher, and their demographic (age) distribution is much more favorable to future growth than is China’s, because of China’s disastrous “One Child” policy, which will be a drag on China for the next 20 years.
India is also a front line state, in confronting the threats from islamic extremism.
They are the world’s second largest producer of Ph.D.s, after the USA - and the topics of those Ph.D.s are strongly skewed toward the hard sciences and technologies of the future.
Only the USA has the capability to provide the market, investment and technology to optimize India’s development, and only democratic India has the mix of characteristics to supplant communist China for the world’s low cost manufacturing base.
We are witnessing a global re-alignment, of profound significance to humanity’s future - away from totalitarian domination by Chinese communists.
This “Namaste, Trump” reception, is in return for the huge “Howdy Modi” rally that was provided to PM Modi, when he visited the USA.
It is another indicator that both sides place very high value on cultivating the relationship.
