WASHINGTON President Trumps immigration policies like travel bans and visa restrictions or refugee caps and asylum changes have begun to deliver on a longstanding goal: Legal immigration has fallen more than 11 percent and a steeper cut is looming.
While Mr. Trump highlights the construction of a border wall to stress his war on illegal immigration, it is through policy changes, not physical barriers, that his administration has been able to seal the United States. Two more measures were to take effect by Monday, an expansion of his travel ban and strict wealth tests on green card applicants.
Hes really ticking off all the boxes. Its kind of amazing, said Sarah Pierce, a policy analyst with the Migration Policy Institute, a nonpartisan research group. In an administration thats been perceived to be haphazard, on immigration theyve been extremely consistent and barreling forward.
The number of people who obtained lawful permanent residence, besides refugees who entered the United States in previous years, declined to 940,877 in the 2018 fiscal year from 1,063,289 in the 2016 fiscal year, according to an analysis of government data by the National Foundation for American Policy. Four years ago, legal immigration was at its highest level since 2006, when 1,266,129 people obtained lawful permanent residence in the United States.
Although the data provides only a glimpse of the effect of Mr. Trumps agenda, immigration experts said it was the first sign of a decline that coming policies are most likely to exacerbate. Those include the wealth tests, which will be imposed on immigrants applying for green cards from both inside and outside the United States.
Around two-thirds of the immigrants who obtained permanent legal status from 2012 to 2016 could be blocked from doing so under the new so-called public charge rule

God bless president Trump. Please get ten of your closest friends to the voting booth this November.
The American culture is changed forever. And all it took was a single generation that did not protect our liberty.
Legal immigration has fallen more than 11 percent and a steeper cut is looming.

He’s banning the freeloaders and security risks.
The NYTimes sucks, is anti-American, and pro Democrat corruption as usual.
I am just imagining the editorial staff just chocking on having to give the President .... any .... credit.
No more “coolies” for the corporate liberals.
On to the fainting couch.
Geeze! The Slimes reports this like it’s a bad thing?
That which the New York Times complains about, I celebrate. I want immigration to drop even more. We need to sort out what’s going on in our own country, before we allow a bunch more people in here. Also, I celebrate Trump’s approach to immigration. We need to be bringing in only those who will contribute to the country, not those who will become dependent on public aid.
We don’t need more congested highways. We don’t need more illiterate children in already crowded classes. We don’t need ever more people living ever less housing. We don’t need to inject millions of people into an already over crowded medical system...especially people who don’t pay for services. Unless they are inventing the next computer, the cure for cancer, room temperature superconductivity, or the space vehicle that will take people to mars, then by all means, otherwise we have enough ethnic food restaurants.
are similar to every other country's immigration policies. Trying to get citizenship in any country is very difficult if not impossible. It was Obama's policies which were highly abnormal.

Subtle wording: suppressing the flow as opposed to reducing the flow of immigrants.
Good we need no further immigration of any kind.
Well, heres a tougher immigration policy.
Lest we forget ...
This should be part of a Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement bill, missing since 1986 ONE TIME amnesty. The List of Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement, missing since 1987 goes like this -
1) southern barrier;
2) require eVerify to hire;
3) end all chain migration;
4) birthright per Minor v. Happersett (plural parents);
5) end work visas;
6) 10-year moratorium on all new applications for citizenship (40 years to allow workplace automation effects on downsizing population);
7) Set up an illegal aliens victim restitution fund.
Enactment of these provisions will motivate illegal aliens to SELF-deport, and remove colonizadors from our welfare rolls.
As expected.
The American culture is changed forever.
