Korean cases are now (just) under the Japanese totals, including the total from the cruise liner there.

830, vs 837, or something similar.

This coronavirus is being over hyped purposefully. Left is desperate to direct attention away from the didastor which is the Democrat ptimary process with the added goal of creating as much panic as possible to disrupt the economy.

Not suggesting the virus shouldn’t be covered but the level of hysteria relative to death rate to me is unwarranted.

Think about what you just said. A US President has no power over what a U.N. organization can do on another nation . Either you are a fool our you are purposefully stating crazy ideas.

This is planted. No way south Koreans just go to China and bring it back. This Harvard professor needs to be interrogated and the ValJar posse.

Globally, there are 79,000 cases. Of those, 25,000 have recovered. The growth rate in total cases has noticeably slowed in the past week or so.

A couple of weeks ago, FReepers and others were freaking out over Singapore. They had a spike in cases, but their total cases are staying steady at 89 and, of those, 51 have recovered.

As new countries notice an outbreak, they start testing a lot of people, and that leads to sudden spikes in the number of cases.

The fact is, when countries recognize they have an outbreak and they start taking infection control measures, they are effective.

The flu kills between 250,000 and 600,000 people every year.

Exactly, and this novel coronavirus is the flu, or so we’ve been told by the virologists here on FR.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

Uh, there's quite a bit of that going on at FR. More than a few comments are fear-mongering, ignorant, based on dubious or unverifiable sources.

Yes and has been going on for a long, long time, lot’s of pearl clutchers here. Believe it is deliberate fear mongering and all about us losing heart.

Of course it won’t work.
