SEOUL, South Korea (AP) Schools were shuttered, churches told worshipers to stay away and some mass gatherings were banned as cases of a new virus swelled Friday in South Korea, the newest front in a widening global outbreak.
The country said two people have died and 204 have been infected with the virus, quadruple the number of cases it had two days earlier, as a crisis centered in China has begun strongly reverberating elsewhere.
The multiplying caseload in South Korea showed the ease with which the illness can spread. Though initial infections were linked to China, new ones have not involved international travel.
The World Health Organization warned that such clusters not directly linked to travel from China suggest that time may be running out to contain the outbreak.
The window of opportunity is still there. But our window of opportunity is narrowing, said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. We need to act quickly before it closes completely.

South Korea and Japan are getting out of control.
Iran and North Korea are rumored to be out of control.
How many others aren’t testing, reporting or not reporting honestly?
If there are many cases in the US, Dems and the media will blame Trump, no matter even if he does the very best possible procedures and policies to prevent it.
Wish they would release the race of those affected, because this virus seems to be hardest on Asians. Have any blacks been infected? Very curious.
A Texas company (not the recent fake one) says it has a vaccine, used money from a large govt grant from last year to work on it. Testing on animals now.
I think you should go over there and find out.
Good news is 3rd world place have no means of detecting if they are out of control
“Wish they would release the race of those affected, because this virus seems to be hardest on Asians. Have any blacks been infected? Very curious.”
The info is out there. Asian men most susceptible 90-95% can get it, Black men 65% can get it, Caucasian men around 50%
Caucasian women have the least chance of getting it. Italian women near impossible to get it.
It has to do with ACE2 cells, Asian men have the most of those cells.
Also smokers 65-70% of China smokes so their lungs are compromised.
All who have died outside of China are Chinese of race.
It started in and is centered on China. Wouldn't you expect more Asians to be affected?
Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
Africa isn’t in Wuhan.
Italy doesn’t look good at all. Iran is cooked.
Nope. Four Iranians died in the last 24 hours.
Everything you say there except for the “smokers” line has been called into serious question by a recent study.
Their are a lot of Chinese working in Africa putting in infrastructure to enable stripping the continent of resources.
IF there were test kits in Africa, we might have a better idea of the infectiousness to black Africans, or for that matter how many Chinese fell ill after partying back home.
“Nope. Four Iranians died in the last 24 hours.”
What does that have to do what I wrote? There is a chart out there with every nationality. Asians are most susceptible to get the virus, especially Asian men, caucasions the least to get it with Caucasian women (spec Italian women) almost near immune to it based upon their ACE2 cells.
All who have died outside of China are Chinese of race.
I think that is correct, but I'd love to see a source confirming it.Do you have one?
The dead South Korean is a gimme, given the close genetics.
