Its not a good sign when different departments at a school start suggesting cutting each other.

The football field at that school is made of RED astroturf.
An absolute assault on the eyeballs.
Cutting athletics there is likely a win.
Close the school.
Save the planet!
Not singling out Eastern Washington.
The whole university paradigm must change. Student loan debt in the U.S. is now well over a trillion dollars. The “ universities “ share none of that burden.
They are only interested in enriching themselves on the backs of their students, while teaching mostly worthless, far-left, WOKE nonsense.
“EWU shouldnt be in Div I. Ya got Wash State (and Gonzaga, tee-hee) for that nonsense.”
Bingo!
Heaven forfend!! Cutting athletics?? In favor of academics???
I grew up in that neck of the woods and there is nothing wrong with an EWU degree. It might not have a lot of national recognition but if you get a degree in a marketable discipline, the degree will land you a job. It will also get you into a graduate program at a more prestigious university if that is the student's plan.
EWU is a classic commuter school serving the Spokane area. (That term is used descriptively, not disparagingly.) With the availability of on-line classes and the branches campus movement from more prestigious universities, the commuter schools may become a thing of the past in the evolving economy.
It may well be that EWU cannot support both academics and athletics at a reasonable level. If so, athletics is the less valuable component in the university's mission.
What a novel idea. The next thing you know they’ll be advocating for vocational training.
EWU’s mascot is the Eagles. Why not the Ewoks?
They also offer Chicana/o/x Studies.
Now here is the most intelligent solution to education I have ever heard!! Brilliant!! A dynamically changing educational system based on necessities in the marketplace!
“....start suggesting cutting each other.”
This isn’t new. But it is different when it is being suggested to cut the department that supplies a huge amount of next year’s budget to the institution.
Even though the gap between football and the rest of the sports is jarring, while the average school generates $31.9 million in football revenue each year, the next 35 sports on average generate $31.7 million combined each year. And what do you do about the
So cutting sports may be an answer to the shortfall, but haw many millions of bucks are going to be forfeited that would have gone to student needs like book availability or test tubes? And then what are they going to do about Title IX? As a whole, women’s sports do not draw the income of the men’s football program alone. So how many sports are going to go and what will the breakdown be to balance the spending since the earnings is so variant but is required to be gender balanced?
The what do you do about sponsoring a transgender athlete?

Not surprising, as they ARE “academics” and want to be funded.
ACADEMIC (AK-a-DEM-ik) An individual educated beyond his intelligence who is unable to create or provide goods or services of value to others, who while hiding out in a college or university pontificates and expects to be paid for it, usually from public funds.
Both my wife and my daughter got their degrees from EWU. It is actually a good school.
They used to offer aeronautical engineering.
