D.C. has long been considered one of the most onerous places in the country for traffic fines, seeing a steady climb year to year in tickets issued and revenue generated. But recently the District broke into stunning new territory, issuing more than $1 billion in tickets in just three years.

the real question is how much of that is actually collected? A big chunk of these citations are probably to politicians, lobbyists, media, etc... No way they pay. they are above the law.
If you dont pay DC tickets, then you get booted and that gets very expensive.
I’m sure all the diplomats and government limos are paying up right away.
DC ticketing is not about promoting safe driving; it’s about generating revenue.
Don’t forget diplomatic immunity for foreign dignitaries....that one is always good to get my blood pressure up.

Thats the same with every traffic court in the country. DC is just taking it to new levels.

Plus they hate outsiders.
What do they do with the money they do collect? Is there any accounting?

JUST to screw with DC and the SWAMP.
ALL of Massachusetts is facing red light cameras and speeding cameras—just heard on Boston radio within the past half-hour.
Tickets are but the tiny tip of a gargantuan iceberg.
Many of DC’s traffic cameras are pure speed trap setups. I caught a brief radio discussion of it yesterday. The first two examples mentioned were 295 and Kenilworth Avenue. From personal experience, yes and yes: speed traps. I could name a couple of others.
and not 1 ticket to any politician as I bet they are exempt!
