The 14 coronavirus-stricken Americans evacuated from a cruise ship in Japan were flown back to the US on a plane full of healthy people against advice from the CDC, a report said Thursday.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials argued the 14 infected Diamond Princess passengers shouldn’t be flown back with the about 300 virus-free people — but ultimately lost the battle to the US State Department, according to The Washington Post.
“It was like the worst nightmare,” an anonymous senior U.S. official involved in the decision told the paper.
“Quite frankly, the alternative could have been pulling grandma out in the pouring rain, and that would have been bad, too.”

Actually I have no idea.
They had all spent almost 2 months together on that ship and rode on the same busses to the airport. It was an onscene call to leave those 14 on the death ship in Japan or suit them up, mask them, and put them on the plane behind plastic and get them home.
You and I would have made different decisions.
All pax were masked on the return. No one really knows yet how many of the “ healthy” will yet test positive
The only good that could come of this would be if it would finally get Trump to boot Pompeo.

Did State do this to intentionally bring 300 carriers here with the INTENTION of introducing it to the US, to bring down Trump in November?
Why the hell didn’t CDC have the final sign-off?
This is going to be bad for Trump.
Couldn’t the CDC have forbade that aircraft from landing in the US?

I am going to guess jurisdiction and budget.
Unfortunately, a lot of US quarantine laws were misused by idiots (”We’re going to quarantine you uppity n*****s so your disease of wanting equal rights don’t spread” - among other misuses) and were weakened or struck down by the courts as a result. Those that remain are mostly weak and at the state level.
The President *can* close the borders, but as we saw in the last two years the courts will forcibly reopen them. And he can’t do it ‘tactically’, i.e., just a particular person or flight.
Unfortunately, what happened here is what happened to a lot of our laws in the 60s and 70s - a bunch of Pollyanna idiots got ahold of it and decided that certain laws were outdated, or the situations they were designed for would never happen again. (Obama - “We will never need tanks to fight tanks ever again” - that level of stupidity.) And therefore they gutted or removed the laws.

They were in a self contained unit within the aircraft.
But the government has a million masks. At least that is what I read the other day. Lol.
Are not those in bio-pods? Were the pods with the patients within taken off in US as one unit? If contained (can’t see the top), not much different than being in the ship, no? Back to family.
Plus we’ll have no vaccine for COVID-19 for at least several months.
