Why Trump Needs Bill Barr: We’re one attorney-general resignation away from establishing moralized hysteria as a normal tool of U.S. politics.
Wall Street Journal ^ | February 19, 2020 | Daniel Henninger

In a cri de coeur for the ages, Attorney General William Barr said in an interview last week that President Trump’s tweets “make it impossible for me to do my job.” Days later in a moment of introspection, Mr. Trump said: “I do make his job harder. I do agree with that.”

Historians someday will identify the current period as the moment something snapped in American politics. The moorings have broken, and we are floating free of any guide ropes. How else to explain not merely disagreements over the term of Roger Stone’s sentence but the mass hysteria it has produced?

Did more than 2,000 former Justice Department officials actually sign a petition calling on Mr. Barr to resign for “doing the president’s personal bidding” on the Stone sentence? Presumably not one of these 2,000 ever argued internally over a sentencing recommendation. Within hours, there were reports that officers of the 1,000-member Federal Judges Association were calling an “emergency meeting” to talk about Mr. Barr.

In public life, tough criticism comes with the job. But what’s going on here is closer to political mania. Allow us to give future historians a head start on deconstructing this case study in the madness of crowds.

The separation from anything resembling normal politics began when Donald Trump won the GOP’s presidential nomination. Exhibit A here will be the charged text exchanges at the FBI between Lisa Page and Peter Strzok.

Set aside the anti-Trump bias. Have FBI officials with this much career experience ever displayed such emotional distress? Eliot Ness must be turning in his grave. Once no more hard-nosed character existed in American culture than the “G-man.” Federal judges in the olden days (before 2016) were largely sober arbiters of the cases before them. Now they call melodramatic “emergency” meetings.

I think Trump has figured out that as long as he puts the word ‘Acting’ in front of any Cabinet position, he doesn’t need Congressional approval, and his picks can serve as long as Trump likes.

So yes, I think Trump has Rudy in waiting in the wings in case Barr gets weak-kneed, which I highly doubt.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Thank goodness CathyWhite....finally some sanity on this thread.

“although I’m sure a lot of them are Dem trolls trying to stir up dissension and undermine Trump and Barr”

Early supporter of Trump and have never changed on that.
When Barr FINALLY lowers the boom and proves me wrong ..i will apologize all day long...I am honestly looking forward to apologizing profusely.
I never wanted to be more wrong about someone in my life!

We can’t go on much longer trying to peacefully coexist with people who are a threat to, among other things, our freedom, security and prosperity.

**************

That is the fundamental problem we are dealing with. We (conservative patriots) want and cherish freedom, security and prosperity. They (Democrats) want control, power and malleable laws that they can shape to suit their own desires.

These are irreconciable differences. There is no way we can coexist peacefully with people who have no respect for our views and beliefs.

Something is eventuually going to have to give. I suspect that we are heading for a new national alignment as legions of people are already voting with their feet and leaving the blue liberal states and several states have counties that are expressing a desire to secede from their oppressive state houses. Momentum seems to be building.

We’re certainly on the same wave length.

I’m 69 and in good health but wish I was much younger. (I’m still a good shot).

In other words Mr. Henninger, these deep state bureaucrats are not guided by basic moral principles such as honesty. If you’re taking them at their word, you’re probably being fooled.
