This is a complicated issue with me. If the country was run correctly there would be no illegals. They would be stopped at the border. People from certain countries wouldn’t be able to get a Visa to even visit, let alone immigrate (any Islamic republic or Muslim majority country.) When our government gets it’s priorities straight about protecting citizens freedoms there would be no driver’s licenses, period.
The libertarian in me wants to travel unobstructed by government, and never asked to, “Show us your papers.” The same logic applies to voting. ID for private transactions, I would consider. But the government’s only job is to protect our nation and the rights of citizens. The solution for current illegal is simple. Deport their asses and make them get back in line and immigrate lawfully.

The government does not need to know who I am to protect my rights.

Agreed. I am just saying stop the problem before it starts. I shouldn’t have to pay for government to license me for anything, or my dog, or my business. There is no pencil necked government employee qualified to evaluate me for a license. Most aren’t even capable of scooping my dog’s Schiff. The problem with illegals is they live here. The solution should not include government control and licensing of citizens. Find away to fix the illegal problem without affecting my freedoms. I think it can be done with a little imagination.

People, citizens and illegals, drive without licences and insurance every day. While I abide by our laws, and have a drivers license, it does not provide me with any value, freedom or liberty other than something artificially contrived by government. Driver's licenses are ineffective methods of detecting and deporting illegals.

What is needed is proof of citizenship. Birth certificate or naturalization papers. If you don't have one of those then you have problems. It should be obvious when taking to most people as to whether they are citizens or not. It begins with speaking the American language. If people can't do that, then they should carry their naturalization papers or Visa. There's no doubt I am a citizen when meeting me. My family has been here 1642, and it shows.

NJ insurance is mandatory too, can’t register a car without a policy number and we had to supply drivers license numbers to get an automobile liability policy. I’d almost bet part of this law says disregard registration and insurance for suspected illegals.

We are close. I don't believe in government services. As a Christian, I think it is incumbent on families to help family members in need. If that fails, then there is the church. If that fails, then their are secular charities. Help should be personal and meaningful. You can't get that from government.

BTW, eliminating government services completely removes any carrots for illegals. It also introduces a notion of free markets, allowing people to choose which church or charity to contribute.

Maybe the more important question would be, why did 0bama feel the need to create a new birth certificate, since he already had one? On page 26, of “Dreams From My Father” (published in 1995), it says he discovered his "birth certificate" during his high school years (about the same time that he got his SSN from Connecticut) inside a book with “old vaccination forms” and an article published in a Hawaii newspaper written by his alleged father.

I think you just proved my point. They didn't have licenses and they were driving and it was discovered that they were illegal. A driver's license did not prove their immigration status. They didn't come to America illegally because they could get a coveted driver's license. Stop the wetbacks at the border. Solve the root of the problem at the route.

If you or I had ignored a whole stack of parking tickets for 17 years the fines would have run into the $1000s, they would have booted and towed and auctioned our cars and probably, by now, have arrested us at midnight in our underclothes and marched us out with a SWAT team.
