Global Surgical Mask Shortage Spells Doom For U.S. Amid Coronavirus Pandemic —
GP ^ | February 18,2020 | Alicia Powe

“We make 7 percent of the [global] mask supply,” Bowen explained on Steve Bannon’s “War Room: Pandemic” podcast. “China has steadily been taking away our mask business. In a few years, it will all be owned by China – they sell the mask for less than I can buy the material.

“America’s hospitals want to save money. The way America’s hospitals buy products – it’s all rigged. GPO, group purchasing organization, bid these things out. They’re looking for the low price, that’s China. That’s why all this happening.”

The United States is also entirely reliant on Chinese manufacturing for nearly all pharmaceutical drugs, generic prescriptions and over-the-counter product supplements and medicines – including penicillin and vitamin C. If US-China tensions worsen, China could cut off antibiotic exports, throwing our hospitals into turmoil.

Bannon, a former top adviser to President Donald Trump, warns these foreign dependencies are at the heart of what it means to be made in America.

“In order to have a secure nation, it’ more than just tanks and soldiers and missiles, there is health security. We are now paying the true cost of the China price, with this just-in-time inventory,” he said. “This globalization. It wasn’t just about taking jobs, which is bad enough, it wasn’t just about stripping our factories out of here. It’s left us exposed as a nation.

“We are now supplicants to our enemies. That is unacceptable and I know that is one of the reasons why Donald Trump is president of the United States.”

I think I read that the Federal government has a million masks in storage.

And two million federal employees, many with guns.

I bought a proper industrial style respirator. To make fun of people wearing those face diapers.

Friend was popping bubble wrap and I started yelling “Stop!!!”

He wanted to know why.

“Bubble wrap comes from China and the air inside the bubbles can be contaminated!!!”

Placebo masks.

Don’t waste your time chasing cheap masks. The only benefit a mask will provide is to keep you from putting your fingers into your mouth and nose. You still have two other entry points on the face, eyes and ears. Best approach keep your fingers off you face, wash your hands with soap and water frequently, and your face at least twice a day.

Bannon needs to be brought back in. Was it Kelly that got him removed?

At the time he went, he had been crowing a bit too loudly.

There are 350 million people in the US.

That stockpile would take care of NYC and LA.

A friend of mine is a MPH and just got back from HK on a trip ordered by her university. She believes handwashing and no hand/face contact is more important than any mask. She didn't wear a mask in HK and people would go out of their way to avoid her without a mask...

I’ve bought several hundred N95 kids masks in the last two weeks. They went to an elementary school in Cebu, Philippines. The kids think they’re cool. One said, “We look like doctors.” Another said, “scientists.” The latest purchase had cartoon characters.

A couple weeks ago, I went to Home Depot to purchase a respirator (working with some VOCs), and all of the N95 masks were gone.

3M produces a lot of stuff. They have 93,500 employees in the US. 1200 is nothing.

There is no entry path through normal ear canals, any more than other parts of the skin.

What plants. Where are these plants and this heavy machinery that will get ramped up?

That’s the problem, the machinery to make this stuff needs to be built, installed, and buildings built.

The city next to me used to make every blanket used by the union Army. The buildings are still there. The people are not. The machines are not. There is nothing in the buildings.

An extreme example, yes. But it’s the same all over the country.

No kidding. I should read the annual report more closely.

My point is that no one is going to ramp up these non existent factories with their non existent machines. And staff them with non existent workers.

This is not 1940. And you are kidding yourself if you think this country is going to start “putting out six liberty ships a day.”

I understand what you are saying. And honestly I don’t think it’s going to get THAT bad. If it does, people will be too busy killing politicians and then each other for a course of retrovirus meds.

Maybe the good of this will be to become a self sufficient country and not depending on near enemies for our vitals.

I know and it does Whizz me off.

‘They’ have been destroying us, brick by brick for years and in some respects, ‘we(collectively)’ sat back and let it happen.

Not only sad, but actually obscene.
