Japanese and Chinese at highest risk for Coronavirus

What is your risk to get infected coronavirus?

East Asians, Japanese, and Han Chinese are the most likely people to become severely sick by the coronavirus with a chance of more than 90% when exposed. Europeans only rank in the 50%, Africans in the 60% range, and considered low to medium. It also makes a difference if one is a smoker or non-smoker.

The Travel and Tourism industry is in turmoil. Tourism leaders don’t want anyone to panic, but the story doesn’t yet have an end to it.

At the same time, researchers are working around the clock to learn more about the deadly virus. Recent studies may explain why Europe, America had no deadly cases of the virus, and no coronavirus cases at all were reported from Africa.

Stopping travel may not be the solution and could only mean travel businesses could become collateral damage in the fight against coronavirus. The World Health Organization always said “do not stop travel and commerce.”, even after WHO declared a global epidemic emergency.

Why is this?
The novel coronavirus (2019-nCov) was identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China in December of 2019.

This new coronavirus has resulted in thousands of cases of lethal disease in China, with additional patients being identified in a rapidly growing number internationally.

2019-nCov was reported to share the same receptor, Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), with SARS-Cov.

Here based on the public database and the state-of-the-art single-cell RNA-Seq technique, the ACE2 RNA expression profile in the normal human lungs. The result indicates that the ACE2 virus receptor expression is concentrated in a small population of type II alveolar cells (AT2).

Surprisingly, studies found that this population of ACE2-expressing AT2 also highly expressed many other genes that positively regulating viral reproduction and transmission.

A comparison between eight individual samples demonstrated that the Asian male one has an extremely large number of ACE2-expressing cells in the lung. This is based on an unfinished study by Yu Zhao, Zixian Zhao, Yujia Wang, Yueqing Zhou, Yu Ma, Wei Zuo and published by Bio Rxiv:

A second study investigates how and why the virus will enter the human body, by Michael Letko, Vincent Munster

Apparently the coronavirus enters a human body through some connection with something called the ACE2 receptor. East Asians and men have more than say white Europeans and women. Being a white woman seems to be the way to have much lesser risk.

According to this study and based on the assumption in this study and in regards to the receptor, Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2, human populations where samples were available were categorized by risk in obtaining a dangerous version of the virus. Most ill may not feel more than a common cold, for others Coronavirus can be fatal.

According to this preliminary study the risk of obtaining the virus:

High risk 90%-99%
Japanese in Tokyo, Japan
Southern Han Chinese
Kinh in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Han Chinese in Bejing, China
Chinese Dai in Xishuangbanna, China

Conspiracy theory:
95% of the Chinese living in Taiwan are Han Chinese. Some have said that this may have been a clever way to weaken Taiwan prior to an invasion but that it escaped the lab.

This virus seems to infect and kill Han Chinese men that smoke on a rather large scale.

One Brit that caught it drank a hot toddy and he was fine.

“How many infected people have you come across? And, how did you know that they were infected?”

One can ask the following: Would they walk the streets of South Chicago at 2AM, or would they prefer to walk the streets of Tokyo at 2AM. There no way I can pre-identify my future attacker in either city, but I know damn well that I’m safe anywhere in Tokyo, at any hour.

It all comes down to playing the odds. My wife will likely die if she gets this bug, due to pre-existing conditions, so I need to put ‘woke’ aside for a bit and play those odds.

I find that anytime I check into a budget model I can usually practice the little Gujarati that I speak.

Hey any port in a storm- back in June of 17 - I was out grinding around on my bike and, departing south out of Idaho Falls for Bryce, my home front commander had made a reservation for me at 'lodgings' just in on state rt. 12 off of the 89, general vicinity of Bryce. She said there was a Rodeway right there but no rooms. Now, my ride down from Idaho Falls was a bummer. Started out with hail and horizontal rain squalls almost down to the Utah line. And then began the wind - seriously marginal all the way down to the two lane twisty [rt 20?] from the 15 over into the 89. May not sound like much but I was tired - serious need of a good IPA and a very rare steak. Taxied into the so-called 'lodging'- bunch of ratty little cabins, parking lot composed of 2 inch river aggregate and 10 inch chuck holes. No clients, no lights, no cars, what next - Tony Perkins offering a special rate on a cabin? Got out of the river aggregate parking lot [by the Grace of G-d - it was dark by now] up the road and into the Rodeway parking lot [asphalt, no less]. The three gentlemen in attendance at the desk were Pakistanis. One spoke a bit of English. One room available. Wow, no food but they had beer. And courteous to a fault. On that three week ride[Maryland to Coeur d'Alene - Prescott - Taos and home] I hit 3 Rodeways - owned by Paks. The only Indian owner I've encountered [Sept 2019] has the really sharp Best Western several clicks north of Louisville on the 65. The dude made a point of telling me that Harley had a factory in India. Politely of course. All in English - no Gujarati.

Mrs BN & I learned our little Gujarati during a course in Mombasa, Kenya on how to learn unwritten tribal languages. We had to practice the techniques on in a language of which we knew nothing, so we chose Gujarati since the majority of Mombasa shopkeepers were Gujarati.

They all, probably, spoke better English than I and were all so very kind, generous and helpful. Since then, whenever I encounter someone I believe might be Gujarati, I practice my greetings and introductions, all I remember now after 36 years. They are surprised at a white, native American speaking a little Gujarati. And they seem delighted and a bit honored. Good, than was my objective!

“... A prescription ACE-2 inhibitor anti-hypertension drug...”

There is no ACE-2 inhibitor drug. The ACE drugs block the enzyme that makes angiotensin. They don’t block the receptors. There are angiotensin-receptor blockers, but they work on type 1 receptors. As far as I know, there is no blocker designed for the type 2 receptor that the corona virus likes.

Thanks for posting this and your discussion on DNA and where your early family came from.

The real racists, who blame everything on the evil white people or evil black people hate data like you posted. That is the reality that the left wing lies/hate can’t hide.

In the next 20-40 years our DNA, children’s and grandchildren’s DNA will predict diseases that we are vulnerable to and those that can kill or maim others, seems to have no impact on some of us.

That will probably spread to IQ, certain mental and physical abilities or lack of them.

Of course physical traits like build, eye/hair color, height, weight will be/is/are among the first DNA identifiers.

Our DNA and life habits/styles could accurately predict the diseases that we are or are not vulnerable to. Even to “new” diseases like this virus.

most likely due to white male Mormons who don’t drink or smoke and they normally have traveled overseas as a missionary and are usually more healthy
