Coronavirus: James Bond cancels Beijing tour because this is No Time to Die

The makers of the latest James Bond blockbuster have been forced to postpone a lucrative publicity tour in China as cinemas in the country remain shut in efforts to contain the coronavirus.

The closure of 70,000 cinema screens across China is taking a toll on the film business from Shanghai to London.

No Time to Die, due for UK release on April 3, will be Daniel Craig’s last as 007 and was expected to be the highest-grossing Bond movie to date. But with revenue from the Chinese market in doubt this is now seen as unlikely.

China has the world’s second-biggest takings at the box office, with more than £6bn in revenue last year. Disney’s Avengers: Endgame took more than £450m in the country alone.

The makers of the latest James Bond blockbuster...

The movie is not a blockbuster until the box office makes it so. Though I expect this movie will bring in a great deal of money, it will do so without my ticket purchase. Woke Bond is not something I wish to see, let alone pay for.

Just about any Bond film is guaranteed a huge opening. I cannot think of any other franchise with such longevity and which has gone through so many iterations of the leading man updates.

And I think Craig has been good. The last flick not so much, but that wasn’t on Craig...

It is a good day to die ~ Klingon proverb
Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

Disney was damn lucky Frozen 2 came out 2 months before this outbreak. That film made a stunning $250 million in just China and Japan, shredding all records. Now movie revs have plunged in both nations as people stay home.

There’s a reason why Bond has survived for half a century: He may be brave, but he’s no IDIOT.

Indeed. The franchise has had a long run of good movies. Craig has been a great Bond. Sad that the PC woke crowd is destroying the film version of Ian Fleming’s creation.

I don't know for sure, so I'm just throwing this out there, but what about Doctor Who?
