PITTSBURGH A Pittsburgh woman is in quarantine after returning home from China where the deadly novel coronavirus has infected thousands of people.
Pat Premick is stuck in her home, unable to leave for two weeks after being quarantined by the Center for Disease Control. She was just in a village in China when news of the outbreak spread.

It's bad that it's a home quarantine and we know some people will ignore that.
It's bad that she had been in China and nobody checked her temp prior to letting her on a flight.
This is why the testimony to Congress by experts yesterday said we should expect outbreaks in 2 to 4 weeks. Because they're pretty certain they haven't stopped everyone who has the coronavirus from entering the country without a quarantine.
I got to believe we can do better. Not checking temps boarding passengers from China exposes all the other passengers to unacceptable risk.
Will she have visitors?
Will her family or whoever shares her home be allowed to come and go?
If yes to either, then why bother?
Thats usually not allowed when quarantined.
Yeah, lots of unanswered questions.
But it seems to be with these ‘self quarantined’ people this time.
Especially the part about family members being allowed to come and go.
Is everyone forgetting the others on the planes with these people.
Do the math. 90 planes a day landed in California. Those people took other planes across the county to get home. Now figures there were 400 or so people on the incoming plane. They boarded smaller planes with 100 or more each.
90 X 400 is 36,000 X 100 is 360,000 potentially affected people who interact with an average of 22 people a day.
Yep, it might be a problem.
so figure
I read an estimate earlier today or yesterday that CDC thinks they are identifying only 25% of people entering the US with the disease!
Why the hell didn’t we shut down all flights from disease-ridden China a month ago? This is insane.
The quarantine is not long enough. Some articles say it can take up to 24 days to manifest. Shouldn’t the quarantine be at least 24 days?
How are these people getting in?
I thought incoming China flights were not allowed?
The WHO came back and said the 24 day case was an outlier, and that it might represent a second exposure.
Most people develop symptoms in 3 to 7 days with an average of 5.
So I think 14 days is reasonable, unless we see more outliers like that one.

I did not see that, but it makes no sense. That is NOT a quarantine.
“The restrictions ban non-U.S. citizens who recently visited China from entering the country and quarantine Americans who visited Hubei province, the epicenter of the outbreak, within the past 14 days. (Immediate relatives of U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and flight crew members are exempted from the ban.)
The administration is also requiring screening and self-monitoring of symptoms for Americans who recently visited other parts of China. All flights from China as of Sunday evening are being funneled to 11 airports: in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Atlanta, Honolulu, Newark, Detroit, Dallas and just outside the District.”

Many of us were saying that a couple of weeks ago and told to take a Xanax because flu
