This law tells NY crime witnesses who see something to say… nothing
New York Post ^ | February 13, 2020 | David M. Hoovler

“If you see something, say something.”

In post-9/11 New York, commuters, tourists and schoolchildren daily read and heard this motto. Other cities, states and nations picked it up, to encourage those who witness wrong behavior to report it to authorities. It evokes civic duty and responsibility for the well-being of our neighbors. It’s part of the social contract and helps prevent and solve crimes.

No more. New York’s criminal justice “reform” undermines the simple motto that has become central to good order in a big city. With the discovery law effective since Jan. 1, if you see something, you may want to think twice before you say something.

Although there has been much focus on the new law’s bail measures, in the upcoming weeks and months, we will see the impact of the discovery component, and it will be ugly. The measure will hinder law enforcers trying to solve crimes and undermine public confidence in our justice system.

Under the law, prosecutors must give defense counsel the name and contact information of anyone with information relevant to a case within 15 days of arraignment — regardless of whether the person will testify at trial.

Have you ever called 911? Even if you want to report criminal activity without giving your name, the recording of the call and your telephone number will now be handed over to the bad guy.

...

Before the new law, only the names and addresses of witnesses who were going to testify had to be disclosed, affording others who come forward the benefit of having their names and identifying information protected. Yes, the accused have the right to confront their accusers. That right should be upheld at trial, in a courtroom, not at a home or place of work months before trial.

Political correctness is a deadly force in our world.

As I recall, a neighbor was suspicious of things happening at the home of the Muslim terrorists in San Bernardino, CA, who ended up massacring about 14 people I believe? But, that neighbor was afraid and cowed by political correctness to say anything.

I was just reading about Saint Francis’ being influenced by the story of the Good Samaritan. A priest and then a Levite walked past a badly beaten crime victim but a Samaritan stopped, bandaged him and set him up with his own money to stay at an inn until the Samaritan could return.

Now, don’t say a word. Don’t admit you saw anything. And for gosh sakes don’t turn in a Muslim terrorist planning a killing. And keep silent about a deranged student planning to kill people. They’ll sue YOU. It’s not healthy.

Some suggest that organized crime pushed the early gun control laws.

How did such a bad law ever get approved? Was it added to another bunch of laws? Of course there will be less witnesses coming forward. This law is only for the benefit of the accused, and does nothing at all for the victim of that circumstance, but subject them to further victimization.
In short; It’s stupid!

Nope. Don’t cooperate. Anyone could be leveraged and forced to lie for the State. It’s not worth the risk because the State is the enemy of the people.

There’s already been beatings and at least one killing of witnesses by MS-13 the first two days after the info was turned over to a murdering thugs lawyer.

Not suggest. State Senator Sullivan of Tammany Hall who ran the gangs in NYC, pushed what is known as the “Sullivan law” to stop muggees from shooting muggers when accosted.

It was in a bundle of new laws passed by the idiot NY legislature last year and signed by the idiot governor Andrew Cuomo to great fanfare and self-congratulation. The other major new law in that package was the elimination of bail for a large number of offenses. Both have already led to very serious bad consequences after going into effect on Jan 1, which was predicted by many people with actual functional brains.

I knew it! I figured a certain level of sneaky behavior was necessary to allow this to become law.

What?! You mean I won't be able to send in "poison-pen letters" and make wild accusations against my neighbors? I won't be able to make anonymous phone calls to the sheriff and make slanderous accusations any more? I'll be what?! Held accountable?

Rats!

Change that to “utterly and irretrievably evil” and I'll agree.
