so we quarantine them for a month. Who makes the car payment, house payment, who pays for the food and housing? lot of questions to think about that are also being addressed China - Xi has supposedly told landlords they can’t collect rent - good for the quarantined but sucks for the landlord. He’s also promised to compensate small business. How would that work here?

From 2013: Horseshoe Bats - one particular virus infected kidney and lung. Has anyone narrowed down the type of bat that’s bat Cov-19?:

For more than a year, scientists from China, Australia, and the United States collected anal swabs or fecal samples from horseshoe bats at a cave in Kunming, in the south of China. They found coronavirus RNA in 27 of 117 sampled animals. Among the viruses were two new strains of coronavirus that resemble the SARS strain more closely than those previously identified in bats, especially in the part of the genome coding for the important spike protein. The scientists also managed to isolate live virus from one of the animals. In experiments, reported online today in Nature, they showed that the virus infected pig and bat kidney cells, and perhaps more important, cells lining the human lung.

They may be doing double talk to the press, but you can be sure that among themselves they are discussing how to deal with the fallout from potential pharmaceutical shortages in their health systems.

“Supplier changes can hurt you very bad.”

Yea, people not too close don’t realize the value of a ‘production line’, nor the complexity of it. It’s basically like a well-tuned orchestra. Throw in a replacement member, give him the music, and it will still take a while to get back up to where you were, and that assumes the replacement is as good to start with.

(and I’m not even into music)

Patient at infected doctor’s hospital tests positive for coronavirus
KYODO NEWS KYODO NEWS - 1 hour ago - 19:08 | All, Japan

WAKAYAMA, Japan - A man in his 70s who was treated at a hospital in western Japan where a doctor was recently confirmed to have been infected with a new coronavirus has also tested positive for it, local officials said Friday, adding that the two apparently never had any contact.

Wakayama Gov. Yoshinobu Nisaka said, however, he does not think infections are spreading inside the Saiseikai Arida Hospital in Yuasa, where the man, a farmer, was briefly hospitalized from last week.

A local government official warned that infections could be spreading outside of the medical facility as the man developed symptoms before he visited the hospital on Feb. 6.

So far, more than 250 people in Japan — 218 of whom are passengers and crew from a cruise ship quarantined in Yokohama — have been found to be infected with the pneumonia-causing virus

Yes you can cough out alveolar fluids. People with bacterial pneumonia can cough out copious amounts of sputum. Viral usually less as there is less WBC and pus production but the coughs can still be productive

Absolutely. What got me was the nurse breaking down and just screaming - if they don’t work they’re a traitor if they do work it’s only death. She must have felt really lost at that moment. I hope she’s ok, too.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — It’s possible to get infected by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) a second time, according to doctors on the frontline in China’s city of Wuhan, leading to death from heart failure in some cases.

The claim is made by doctors working in the Hubei Province capital that is at the center of the epidemic, which has to date infected 64,201 people and killed 1,487. One of the doctors reached out to a relative living in the United Kingdom, who then informed Taiwan News.

"We are living in a knock-off World and someone has pocketed the difference. "

Our kids get tired of hearing how much quality has dropped in our lifetimes. We just replaced our 57 year old heating oil furnace and AC system after being told by the service rep that we had a cracked firebox. We were skeptical but couldn't be sure so we decided to update and switch to gas. When all the equipment was pulled out, not only was the firebox intact, but the oil tank was in great shape. We had been told that they have a useful life of about 60 years. This stuff was made to last back in the 60's. The new system we put in might last 15 years. Youngsters love to lecture us about green this and green that. They don't consider how in America we used to build things that could be repaired and made to last longer than much of what we buy today.
