Senate passes resolution limiting Trump’s power to order strikes against Iran

The Senate on Thursday voted to pass a resolution limiting President Trump’s power to order military strikes against Iran without the approval of Congress.

The bipartisan 55 to 45 vote — in which eight Republicans joined all Democrats in approving the resolution — was seen as a rebuke of Trump’s opposition to consulting Congress when making foreign policy decisions.

But the measure is largely symbolic as it has been slammed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Trump, and so is not likely to garner enough Republican support to override an expected presidential veto. That would require a two-thirds majority.

Yep. I’ll be glad when Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski and Lamar Alexander are no longer in the Senate. That day can’t happen soon enough.

They should make up their minds. They condemned Trump for refusing to go to war in Syria, now they forbid him fro LM responding to hostilities from Iran. Basically they want the Obama foreign policy where we appease radical Islam wherever it exists and make war on anyone else in the Middle East.

-—Mixed feelings on this one. I’m sick and tired of military missions in these third-world s*hole Islamic armpits. On the other hand we cannot let any of these fanatics get nukes.-—

For me it’s not about Iran at all. It’s about Congress trying to hamstring Trump with restrictions that no other President would be subject to.

Special rules for Trump only - because they don’t like him - is the problem.

Imagine how this would limit Trump’s threat the Iranian regime and stymie any resolution that Trump might otherwise be able to force on them. This would actually make it more dangerous in the area for American forces. These people are miffed and acting out as opposed to acting in favor of the United States. As far as I am concerned each and every Republican who voted for this needs to be primaried.

Agree. These idiots need to be voted out. If we cannot have a President who targets threats to America, we have idiots in Congress. We bombed Japan with nukes and it saved an invasion of Japan. These idiots would take months to make a decision.

Someone should tell these dimwits that there hasn’t yet been a circumstance in Trumps administration that warranted “consulting Congress when making foreign policy decisions”.

In their defense, one could explain it to them - but they wouldn’t understand.

All President Trump needs to do is to change the rules of engagement to allow the field commanders to respond without consulting the White House.
