‘Ray Donovan’ will get a proper ending after sudden cancellation... (Liberals hate this show due to Jon Voight.)

“Ray Donovan” will return to give fans a proper ending after being unceremoniously axed by Showtime, sources have exclusively confirmed.

The Liev Schreiber drama will either come back for a few final episodes or a movie to lay the characters to rest, Page Six can reveal.

Fans were left fuming after Showtime canceled the show a week ago — denying them a proper ending after the Season 7 finale finished with a cliffhanger. Series showrunner David Hollander admitted that he and the show’s creative team had been blindsided....

And a source confirmed to Page Six: “There was an outpouring of support from fans and they pummeled Showtime, who it would seem did not recognize the power of the fan base and social media.”

....Sources say the decision to ax the show was made for political reasons amid the recent merger between CBS, which owns Showtime, and Viacom

As Hollander told Vulture: “We were behaving creatively as though we were in mid-sentence. And so, there was no sense that this was going to be a completion. This was in no way a series finale.”

“Whatever new environment grew from the merger clearly had some impact on their choice,” Hollander said, before noting that many of the executives who championed “Ray Donovan” at the start were there for its funeral as well.

“The people who made this decision are the same people who brought this to the air. They were unbelievably supportive creatively. They were always deeply in the artist’s corner, and deeply committed to our success,” he said. “There was never a moment where I saw any of them negatively charged toward our show. They were always proud of it. They always accepted our indulgences....

I’m still waiting for a proper ending of the last “V” Series on ABC. Somehow the Alien Queen ended up on Homeland.

I’m still trying to figure out how such a skinny girl could hide that big Tail she used to kill her Mother.

I watched this show faithfully until I cut the cord and got rid of cable last year. Great show. Hopefully it will get on one of the streaming services so I can finish it up.

Voight’s character was a real nasty piece of work. Loved Lieb Schreiver as Ray.

Here’s what the showrunner said: “To be fair to our bosses, Ray Donovan, for the Showtime model, was a very expensive show. We were going into our eighth season with salaries and all the step-ups for union. And the move to New York was extraordinarily expensive, so there’s that.”

I think Showtime may “greenlight” a two-part miniseries of two 90-minute movies to finish the show.

Every decent series turns to garbage once the viewership is established. Bait and switch.

Viacom prolly wanted Voight to preach Leftwing BS.

A Little Off Topic.
I’ve never watched the show. I have seen still photos here & there. Actor Liev Schreiber always wears the exact same facial expression anytime I see him photographed, whether on or off the show. Does he ever change his expression, or might that be just staying in character at all times? Some actors will do that.
Bobby deNiro used to be that way many years ago.

Sounds like it was a good show. Maybe they can move production to someplace cheaper, like North Carolina or Canada.

It would be difficult to move a show about a “fixer” in LA to NC or Canada.

His character works in the greater Los Angeles area.

Liev Schreiber is a great actor. The Ray Donovan role allows him almost no range of emotions because all he does is speak seriously, then murder people professionally. I watch the show for the actors, including Schrieber and Jon Voight, but the characters are animals.

I think the creators owe it to the fans to finish up storylines on a "continuing" series. Otherwise, they should not connect the episodes in that way. My wife was really pissed that show she was following - Unforgettable - starring Poppy Montgomery was canceled right after a shocking moment in which one of the main characters was shot and apparently killed by a sniper.

One solution is to stop making these interconnected shows. I miss the days when shows were largely independent stories. You could do an occasionally 2 or 3 parter; but if I know going in that I have to watch every episode to follow the story I probably won't start watching the show.
