Seven Turkish soldiers and one civilian personnel were killed in Syria on Sunday, Turkey's first fatalities as a result of direct confrontation between the countries since the start of Syria's civil war in 2011. The Turkish Defense Ministry released the latest death toll on Tuesday. Several other troops had been also wounded in northwest Syria's Idlib province after they came under heavy artillery fire from the Syrian government, according to an earlier statement from the ministry, which specified that the troops were reinforcements. On Monday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said up to 35 Syrian government soldiers had responded and pledged further retaliation. ...

Turkish soldiers are in the last rebel-held area of Syria as part of a 2018 de-escalation agreement between Ankara and Moscow. The Syrian government has mounted an aggressive air campaign in Idlib in recent weeks, amassing troops along strategic highways leading to the rebel enclave.

An excuse to swallow some more of Syria in Erdo’s drive to rebuild the Ottoman empire? As a “defensive action.”

Looks like Turkey and Syria are sliding closer to outright war - they have now both killed each others soldiers.

Turkey is occupying significant areas of Syria’s Northwest. Now that the rest of Syria is basically pacified, all of the Assad Regime’s firepower is turning toward liberating the Turkish-occupied (and Sunni jihadi-infested) areas.

They have had a mutually beneficial cease fire and population transfer agreement for a couple of years, but now that circumstances have fundamentally changed, their inherent opposition in the conflict over control of Syrian territory, can be delayed no longer.

This next phase of the Syrian War is going to bleed Turkey directly.

Syria wants the Turks to pay for foisting the al qaeda terrorists on them and killing millions of Syrians.

Erdogan using his troops as human shields to protect jihadists has now had the predicted results. Turkey has been supporting the ISIS terrorists all along.

"What a giant cluster f*** Syria has been from the start"

IIRC it was all part of the Obama/Hitlery "Arab Spring" campaign that toppled Tunisia and Libya attempted to topple Egypt and Syria. Leading to the islamic invasions of Western Europe and North America.

“can’t both sides lose?”

It’s the Middle East - that’s the most likely outcome.

Yeah, dead soldiers is kinda what happens when you invade another country to protect ISIS and anti-government Sunni wahabbist rebels.
