That would just determine (maybe) that they have it. with 7 days being the time frame for 95% of cases to show symptoms and 14 days for 99%, they could miss a lot of possible cases.

Throw on that the announcement from the CDC about problems with their lab work, it is quite possible the lab work is not really that great at identifying cases.

I believe it is safe to assume there are no longer valid numbers from any official sources in China. If true counts could be obtained, they would likely be much higher than announced. (10x? 20x? 30x?) Even the Chinese rulers probably do not know what is loose in their country.

The best indicators will be counts from Japan, Korea, USA, and Germany. The fate of the unfortunate cruise ship passengers and crew will be instructive and probably well-documented.

I got a heads up this past week from 2 different individuals, I have known for decades, and they seem to have an interesting twist re prophylaxis to prevent infecting your selves.

Apparently, plain alcohol kills this virus. They are recommending liberal use of the alcohol hand sanitizers when their people are exposed to or after treating patients.

I went to our local Walmart yesterday to buy a good supply of this product. They were sold out except for a few 3 ounce bottles. So I bought the few bottles.

Then, I went online to Amazon to buy some bigger bottles to refill the smaller bottles.

They were out of stock in any brand name product. I ordered a 6 pack of 10 oz bottles that will not be received until next week. I got the Sanitizer with aloe and vitamin E as recommended by my friends,

Remember this is only for external use.

Karl, If it were true, I would be very happy...I hope it becomes true in the coming days.

As I have stated, I live in area with confirmed cases, 2 major airports,a large Asian population, and a family member who works in a hospital lab testing medical samples and working on grad program in infectious disease...So I am following this closely.

70% or stronger rubbing alcohol for surfaces, after a soapy water wash. Bleach works too. Clorox wipes - but the surface has to be damp from the wipes for 4 minutes or more. Use one cloth for each small surface to avoid spreading the virus around. Rubbing alcohol is 30 seconds or something.

Hand sanitizer - rub it for 20 seconds or more - sing “Happy Birthday” song twice. Same goes for hand washing with warm soapy water.
