MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Twenty people in Shelby County are being monitored by the health department in the fight against coronavirus. While there are no confirmed cases of the illness in Tennessee, Mississippi or Arkansas, health officials are upping their prevention protocols to keep the virus from reaching the Mid-South.
The Shelby County Health Department says those being monitored are Shelby County residents who reported recently traveling back from China. Right now, however, those individuals are not considered suspect or under investigation.............
The whole state of New York and New Jersey?
I drive 200 miles a day and meet so many folks ,
....Im 62
Id look funny in a mask
Cheated death over and over and over
Better to use resources on those with more life left
Course thats precisely who Spanish flu killed mostly as I recall....young adults and teens
My mom was terrified of things you cant see that can kill you
But she died brave to her credit
Im just not like that ...my wife is kinda like my mom...fearful ish
I worry more about my children ....that phone rings at middle of the night over and over....that will get ya scared quick
Three years ago I got that call....my daughter....I didnt answer at first too slow...then she texted that it was an emergency...I was so relieved when I saw that text at least she was alive if she could text obviously
But it was bad news...and selfishly my first thought was thank God it wasnt her but someone else lost a child that night...I feel guilty to admit that
Whew...
I guess. They didn’t ask about California or WA, just NJ, NY, and Chicago. I thought it was a little odd.
I understand. I’m 65 but I have asthma so I always get my flu shot but still take precautions when in crowds this time of year. My husband is 82. We have people that still need us so we play it safe during flu season.
Some are starting to suspect that this thing is lethal for ethnic Chinese but maybe not for others. A genetic component.
My nephew lives in Hong Kong. He Flew from HK to Japan and then on to LA. This was Sunday. He's traveling around the US this week and part of next, then repeating the Journey back. Don't fool yourself thinking that no one from China can get here. There is still a constant stream of people, they are just taking different routes.
The multicultural crowd was not like that
They will insist to the Coronavirus that race is an artificial category, an abstraction. COVID-19 says “hold muh Tsingtao ‘n watch this”
Monitoring. I feel safer already. NOT!Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
Getting infected or dying? Getting infected, yes, several. Like super spreader in England
Quarantining in California is what should happen.
Monitoring in Tennessee is probably what will happen. And that’s a recipe for disaster.
CDC should step up and order a quarantine.
I drive into Memphis five days a week, so....
You remind me I need to check the status of my N95 stash.
Let’s play it safe, nuke it from space.

This Johns Hopkins map shows 14 confirmed cases in the US as of 2-12-2020.
Yeah, I thought about nukes as a plan B, but Nashville is downwind.
I cannot see the rationale for writing/posting this story about folks, with no actual expectations of being infected are “being monitored” - except to increase alarm.
