If the Coronavirus is this contagious, how is it that other
nations are able to keep their infected numbers so low?
On the 6th of February, the number of infected people
outside of China was reported as 310. Today, if you
discount the Cruise Ship count of 175, that means that
the number has only grown to 398 in six days. That's
hardly the stuff of exponential growth.
On January 20th, there were approximately 282 cases
globally. With six days there were 2757.
Notice the difference in growth rates?
How is the rest of the world doing it? Or is it doing it?
So far it seems so, but you sure have to wonder.
This data dump today will cause folks to question everything.
Are any of the reports real?
The "other than China" numbers have more than doubled over the past 7 days. That's pretty much the same rate as China. If the infection continues to double every week outside China, then the containment has failed.
When the CDC first announced their precautions, they stated they were not trying to stop the virus, but slow it down. As if they don't believe it CAN be stopped. Looking at Wuhan vs the rest of China, it appears that Wuhan's hospitals have been overwhelmed by the "critical" patients, and they are not able to save those who's lungs are severely effected. Mortality everywhere EXCEPT Wuhan is much lower. So as long as ICU's are not overwhelmed, mortality is relatively low.
On a side note, I saw that the Miramar folks are begging for a more restrictive quarantine, as opposed to the current one with Zumba classes, card games, community meals, etc.
I have been wondering if this bug isn’t already here.
Lot’s of respiratory distress in hospitals all over. Has been for a few months.
So much depends on definitions, doesn't it? If there aren't enough test kits and the criteria for testing are stringent, there may not be many confirmed cases to report. If there are a lot of mild cases in which people don't report their symptoms, these also fly under the radar. Lastly, there is an incubation period which we've been told is anywhere from 2-14 days, or even as high as 24. We could have a lot of people currently incubating (and perhaps spreading) infection who will cause the numbers to increase in the next 1-2 weeks. Let's hope not, but prepare ourselves for rough times ahead.
It may be a racially targeted virus.
