Medal of Honor Recipient Leroy Petry Defends Trump’s Firing of Vindman
Breitbart ^ | Kristina Wong

“I respect Donald Trump’s actions on escorting [Vindman] out of the White House because he, as a team player, he should have brought it up through the chain of command, and then blown the whistle if it didn’t get approved,” Petry said Sunday.

Spoken the way most military people should.

You have to observe chain of command and process unless you have specific reasons and are willing to back them up under the threat of a court martial.

Just how it is.

Our domestic enemies will re-discover their hatred for the US Military today.

Staff Sergeant Leroy A. Petry distinguished himself by acts of gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty in action with an armed enemy in the vicinity of Paktya Province, Afghanistan, on May 26, 2008. As a Weapons Squad Leader with D Company, 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Staff Sergeant Petry moved to clear the courtyard of a house that potentially contained high-value combatants. While crossing the courtyard, Staff Sergeant Petry and another Ranger were engaged and wounded by automatic weapons fire from enemy fighters. Still under enemy fire, and wounded in both legs, Staff Sergeant Petry led the other Ranger to cover. He then reported the situation and engaged the enemy with a hand grenade, providing suppression as another Ranger moved to his position. The enemy quickly responded by maneuvering closer and throwing grenades. The first grenade explosion knocked his two fellow Rangers to the ground and wounded both with shrapnel. A second grenade then landed only a few feet away from them. Instantly realizing the danger, Staff Sergeant Petry, unhesitatingly and with complete disregard for his safety, deliberately and selflessly moved forward, picked up the grenade, and in an effort to clear the immediate threat, threw the grenade away from his fellow Rangers. As he was releasing the grenade it detonated, amputating his right hand at the wrist and further injuring him with multiple shrapnel wounds. Although picking up and throwing the live grenade grievously wounded Staff Sergeant Petry, his gallant act undeniably saved his fellow Rangers from being severely wounded or killed. Despite the severity of his wounds, Staff Sergeant Petry continued to maintain the presence of mind to place a tourniquet on his right wrist before communicating the situation by radio in order to coordinate support for himself and his fellow wounded Rangers. Staff Sergeant Petry’s extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of military service, and reflect great credit upon himself, 75th Ranger Regiment, and the United States Army.

Soldiers have no use for Vindman. He was a chow thief in Ranger School, was despised by the soldiers in his company when he was a company commander, and the Army has a traditional disdain for political activity while in uniform. Added to his behavior at the NSC including lying, leaking, and disloyalty, he won’t get much love from his fellow soldiers.

Exactly. I saw a poster the other day suggested a blanket party, and it made me laugh to think of Trump, Giuliani, and others all taking whacks with Vindman playing the part of Pig In A Blanket...

Get what approved?

I cannot understand how he got to that position in the WH, or even on the NSC, The Lt. Col. was born in the Ukraine of Russian parents. He is a dual citizen which tells be he owes allegiance to both countries. How do these things happen?

I don’t believe that US law recognizes the concept of dual citizen.

In a position like the NSC, the officer in question is expected to follow the chain of command, but has access to the whistle blower route if the answer provided by the chain of command does not effectively respond to the complaint. By that, it means that the answer returned back down the chain does not clearly identify a reason that obviates the complainant’s rationale for complaining.

That’s this former O-3’s take.

For waste fraud and abuse, violation of safety regulations, etc. Not because you don’t like your bosses boss and no one will “fix” it for you.

I would have agreed with you up to about ten years ago when I began to hear of them. When I was a younger man working in LE there were none. The oath a new citizen took required they forsake their previous citizenship. But we have dual citizens now. When, why and how it came about I have no idea.

The law must have changed then. The last person I talked to about dual citizenship (not that long ago!) told me that US law did NOT recognize it. You forsake all other allegiances as you said. I’d like to see a link to the new law.

Agreed.

However, I took your question to be inquiring what a legitimate meaning for “get approved” in this context.

However, such a complaint regarding a difference of opinion should be an explicit and immediate truncation of career for an O-5. At the O-3 level, it was certainly a career limiting move, absent a VERY compelling reason for the complaint.

Thanks, good article. The comments, like many on this subject, reflect a widespread ignorance of how the Army handles assignments, discipline, promotions, etc.

My Filipina wife can have dual citizenship (she doesn't, but it's available), and it helps ONLY in the Philippines, allowing her to own property and be in business and be an American citizen as well.

I, as her spouse cannot own property and I have limited ownership in a business (I think it's 40%, but don't quote me)

My wife is happy to be an American citizen and has little desire to maintain any connection to The Philippines.

But that’s the Philippines recognizing dual citizenship not the US! Just because they allow it doesn’t mean it has any meaning to the US. I think Israel has something similar. Just because one country has law A doesn’t mean that law has any authority here.

Trump did not “fire” Vindman. He was reassigned.
