You left out the reasons for it. Some members of Congress and swamp creatures are helping the drug cartels, so they penalized some Filipino officials by revoking their visas and other measures.
Duterte is a hothead. He’s a very stubborn man and very prideful.
Additionally, he has had through his public life stated his affinity for Communism. And, stated through his public life an antipathy for Capitalism. He’s a true authoritarian. He’s a My Way or the Highway kind of guy and gives little thought to the possible consequences of his actions.

I don’t get this forum. Folks claim they want an end to endless wars and defense agreements obligating US forces. Then when other countries offer an opportunity to do so (Iraq and the Philippines) people here get angry.
